She is pop after all and most pop stars are just one hit wonders who fade away only to be resurrected in 20 years for a VH1 Behind the Music episode.

Miley and Bieber are in the same boat as far as I'm concerned. Here's the thing about teeny bopper pop musicians, once their core group of pre teen fans become adults, they get tossed like yesterday's news. Ask any girl who grew up liking Nsync or The New Kids. Once they reach a certain age, it becomes really lame to like those bands. Miley and Bieber have to do ridiculous, outrageous things to stay relevant because what originally made them popular is dated and lame to most of their fan bases.

I think she is attractive and smart. I don't listen to her music

Largely true. Justin timberlake is one of the few exceptions.

He's had success because he broke away from the band. While he's still a pop musician, his newer music is not nearly as corn-ball as the Nsync stuff. I'd say he's probably a borderline R+B artist now. He can actually sing too which helps separate him from a lot of his contemporaries who are more dancers/eye candy types.

Well I think he sounds awful usually and still has a heavy focus on being eye candy and a dancer. But yes, he's more of an r&b artist now.
Sure, he broke away from the band. Miley and Bieber don't have bands to break away from as they are already "solo" artists. They can theoretically change their sounds/evolve as easily as JT did when he left the band. I think what sets JT apart from others who had been in his place as a teen pop superstar is (1) he probably is legitimately more talented than most, even if I don't care for him, (2) he's smarter/more industry savvy than most who have been in his position, and (3) he hasn't gotten caught up in that stupid shit that others do. You don't see him getting arrested, or caught with drugs, etc. I'm sure the dude parties, but he seems to keep it all under control.

So are the Beatles, Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, The Backstreet Boys, and Madonna.
Miley may still be very young, and so are most of her fans, but many of them have evolved WITH her since she was 13 years old, and are now in their mid 20's...this is her 4th studio album. Its not embarrassing for them to listen to her at all, thus her popularity.

I think it's a stretch to put the Beatles in the same category here. And the backstreet boys flamed out big time. They didn't grow with their fans or stay relevant. Britney Spears is a bit more hit or miss. I think even most Britney fans concede that her music isn't very good, but they listen anyway just because she's Britney (which is kind of cool for her). But her popularity isn't nearly what it was anymore.
I've said nothing about Miley Cyrus' staying power. I personally think she largely sucks and is doing little other than very obvious and contrived attention grabs that I don't care about, but people are eating that up and making her millions. At this point, people will now her for a very long time.

I would totally put the Beatles in the same category, they were 15-16 years old when they started in the 50's, their fans grew with them until they had their first #1 hit in 1963. The older generation hated them and all thought they wouldn't last. The only reason we look at them differently is because they stood the test of time, and their music was so popular that we now consider them music icons.

Until MC shows half the wit and creativity of Madonna, this will be a very tough sell. Madonna has taken total creative and personal control of her career since day one. I don't think Miley can even write a song, much less manage her own career. I'm not a big fan of Madonna but I sure respect her. And by the way, Forbes estimated her worth as more like 1B.

Madonna didn't write most of her music in the early days, such albums as Madonna, Like A Virgin, and True Blue. I agree that Miley isn't even on the same planet as Madonna in terms of creative control, but I'm not sure Madonna was in those early days either. Miley is 21 years old and already has 4 albums to her credit, a long running tv series, and a hit movie. Madonna at 21 years old hadn't really had any success. All I'm saying is that its easy to sit here and say that Miley Cyrus is a flash in the pan, but she's accomplished more in short musical career than most artists ever do. She may fade out over time, or she may make Madonna look small time.

I didn't know they were that young when they started.
All the same, my opinion of Miley is the same. I'm not saying she won't continue to stay in the populace's eye. She's been in the business since she was about 13 and she and her advisors are doing a great job of ensuring people keep talking.

I don't see how anyone can pick on and degrade a young woman. I don't see where she has had any trouble with the law like Bieber has. Oh, like any of you have perfect bodies and act perfectly all the time. BS. She is just trying to make it through life like we all are except her life is very public and everything she does is seen and open to criticism by many who can be hypocritical. I am sure being the daughter of Billy ray has made it doubly tough for a young kid to live through. Yet she has not only survived but has become more successful than most of the people bashing her. She could just sit back and spend her money but it looks like she wants to keep busy and have fun doing what she does. If you don't like it then feel free to Change the Channel!

The Beatles have nothing in common with Miley Cyrus. She became famous for lip synching on a children's television show. She got that gig from her dad being a pseudo-country musician. Pretty much every single band in history was formed when the members were teens. Some get popular at an earlier age but I don't think the Beatles big break came because John Lennon's dad got them a gig on an English children's television show.
There was a time, recently, that Britney Spears was the most popular musician in the world. Did you know that she recently released a new album? Because most of America either doesn't know or doesn't care. Madonna is the extreme rare example of the marginally talented pop star who's career has spanned multiple decades.
