Guess it has to do with cultural differences in therms of what one culture defines as appealing - allegedly is it a measure of fertility in asian cultures. IIRC you can't enter most bath house in japan if you are shaved or tattooed, or why you can buy fake pubic hairpieces in Japan. My beat is that such factors conserve this hairy look despite the fact that good number of asian girls started to shave n wax as well.
Nor is the trend to shave all to old in the european/western culture versus the arab culture where it is common for centuries to remove all body hair with sugar wax for both sexes. That cosmetic trend just took of 10-15years about ago really once the porn industry had established it as now standard look in there mid 90's.
