I just finished installing Windows 7 Beta 1 as a virtual machine in VMWare Fusion on my MacBook Pro and I have to say I am impressed with the speed. It installed in less then a half hour and it runs much better then Vista, I'd say the speed is on par with Windows XP. Has anyone else given it a shot yet and if you have what do you think? If you haven't loaded it yet and you want to give it a try here's the link;

I'm really shocked at how much better Windows 7 is then Vista. I've got Firefox 3.0.5 installed and it is really fast. Maybe Microsoft is finally getting their shit together. Security and stability remain to be seen but so far it's pretty nice.

As much as I hate Vista, I don't use Beta versions as a general rule. I'll wait for the final version.

I hear ya, I'm just messin' with it in a virtual machine. I would never upgrade a machine I needed. too risky.

I am using Windows 7 Beta 1 as my main OS eight now. No problems at all. Everything works fine and all my programs work great. By the way, Microsoft has released Windows 7 Beat 1 to the public on their site. You will get a key to install it. Lasts until August 2009. I think Microsoft done a great job with Windows 7.

I have to agree, so far so good. It's very stable for a beta release.

i have the beat burned to cd, just waiting to pick up another monitor to boot it up on an old box I got. Looking forward to it as the OS has got some great comments so far.

Yes very stable for a beta. Except Internet Explorer 8 is giving some trouble. Might only be me. I just downloaded Firefox so everything is ok now. Lol

My only complaint so far is the startbar changes they made. I know what they were going for but I don't care for it. Shortcuts and running apps together ain't my thing. Luckily you can turn it off.

What are the system requirements? I've heard they are less than with Vista but wasn't told specifics. I'd like to see it in action but don't have the knowledge of VMs to really try it on my main machine.

Warning thou.If your a pc gamer ,and the games you play using punkbuster.You cannt use windows 7,you get a packet flow error from it.

Im pretty impressed, Im using it as hard as I can. If I get about 15-20 windows open it has a tendency to crash if I try to save something. What i thought was cool is the little file icon on the taskbar shows how far a file transfer is coming by getting greener. I dont know how to explain it. Media Center has a boost too.
#3980909
well i play call of duty games and they use punkbuster. i havent had any problems with punkbuster yet

i put it on my old computer when i got a new one with vista sp 1. it's pretty slick. ONLY use it virtually or on a secondary computer. betas, especially from microsoft, are prone to crashing. this one is stable yes, but fact remains...

also, is it my imagination or is that task bar beginning to look like an osx dock?

That's the part I hate. The rest is fine, but that part sucks.

And about lower requirements, yes it should run better on older hardware than Vista. It has better scaling features than Vista does so it can tone down things with a lot more granularity than Vista which had a lot of off/on options only for that scaling.
