Get one of these, will make it last forever.
I was told that you should let it fully charge and fully discharge to preserve battery longevity, although this isnt always practical. After many charges the battery will eventually diminish power holding capability, and, like what's happened to Honda's, not last long at all.
Personally I leave mine on the mains whenever possible and disconnect the battery, then it uses mains power and not battery life, which I'm sure also diminishes battery longevity as you can feel it getting hot.
The only real advice I could give is have a look at your battery power saving settings on your laptop. Turn the brightness down too, that uses a fair bit.
Find out what sort of battery it is, if its a "Li-On" technology battery DO NOT let it discharge fully or you could damage it, if its not you can do the full discharge/recharge thing to condition it.
A lot of manufacturers like HP have recondition sequences and sometimes whole programmes to do it on their websites.
Just some random thoughts.
Go into power options on your notebook and make sure that's set to Maximum Battery ( to maximise life).
Make it last longer by doing less work, so defrag your Hard Disk Drive (HDD) to make it work less hard, and copy data From CDs to your HDD where you can , cos CD/DVDs and external usb devices suck batteries dry.
Also set your notebook to go into hibernate rather than standby when not in use, that saves a lot of power.
as an extreme consider getting a second battery .
Umm cant think of anything else. Let us know how you get on.
Ohh I forget turn off bluetooth and wifi if your not using it.
