"Office workers have long mastered the art of hiding what they’re really doing. Online shopping when the boss walks by? Minimize your browser! Perfecting your dating profile when your co-worker comes to chat? Press F4! Yet earlier this year an employee at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency got caught, almost literally, with his pants down. A special agent from the EPA’s Office of Inspector General showed up at the senior-level employee’s office to find out why he’d stored pornographic images on the network servers. The agent walked in on the guy—you guessed it—watching porn.

When pressed, the employee admitted he’d been watching sexy sites for two to six hours every workday since 2010. That’s somewhere from three to eight months of continuous porn watching. The man, who makes about $120,000 a year, is on administrative leave while the government investigates him. So far, EPA officials have found more than 7,000 porn files on his work computer. At a congressional hearing, it was revealed that he liked to visit a website called Sadism Is Beautiful......"

Why is his porn preference important? That's just click bait. (Or, would be if NC actually linked an article there, in his link.)

Also, he should have to pay back the salary he didn't earn, and be fired.

If everyone who's not doing his job during working hours (looking at porn or anything else) had to do that, there would be plenty of jobs available all over the world

There's a lot of time wasted- it's necessary for productivity and morale. Breaking up monotony so you can actually focus yourself.

However, there's a difference between checking out YouTube a few times and spending 6 hours of your 8 hour day looking at porn on federal computers for four or five years while getting paid more than a hundred thousand a year, in my opinion.

The general rule of thumb is too much of anything is not a good thing. Even as a business owner, you are losing productivity when you are distracted. I post a thread about being a porn addict and some scoffed at that idea. When your family starts complaining or your boss starts complaining or you stop doing other things that need to be done, then your are probably an addict. Some people are addicted to forums in general. Yea plenty of times I have been on the forums when I should been doing something more productive. You can learn a lot on certain forums though so a good many are not a waste of time. Forum are fun too but you have to maintain a balance between forums and the real world. When you get fired from your job for spending time looking at porn or anything not related to your job, or your wife and kids have left you and you didn't realize it, then you know you have a problem
Too much work is not a good thing either ie work alcoholic describes that problem. Many self employed people have that problem

A recent study showed that to get the best of your working attention, you should do a 17min break for every 52min of actual work. That surprised me a little because I wasn't expecting suck break/work ratio.

Well, I own my own business so technically I'm only wasting my own time.

This makes sense. While I occasionally scroll through random internet stuff (like WBW) I'm rarely online for more than 5-10 minutes at a time. Unless it's the dead of winter and my shop is so slow I have nothing to do but moderate photos on an amateur porn website.
