Two things.
I'm a huge Camaro fan and a huge movie buff.
I've been e-mailing people about the new Transformers
movie. I havn't been able to access this site for a while,
so here is what i've been sending out, plus pictures:
Why is the Camaro in the Transformers movie a good thing? Well, for starters, it’s a Camaro, so that should be good enough. However, the director, Michael Bay, has a long standing relationship with General Motors. When he’s not making movies, he still goes back to direct commercials for them.
But it also shows that GM is serious about putting the new Camaro into production. For the film The Matrix Reloaded, GM donated their, at the time, concept Escalade EXT. You know, the big black SUV/truck abomination with the Twins inside. Placing it in the movie made it hot for people to buy. And they did. I think that’s what they are now doing for the new Camaro. Plus, Saleen is getting in on the act. The Camaro is sporting a Saleen plate in the back, and the Decepticon Mustang cop car is a Saleen Mustang. In the past GM has let Michael Bay use many of their cars, to include the one-off Cadillac Cien Supercar in his last film The Island. They also supplied the cars for his other film, Bad Boys 2. Also, this film is getting the most support from the Army, Air Force, and the Department of Defense (DOD) since Black Hawk Down. So in this e-mail there will be some pictures of a truck used by an Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team in the states, but with a logo put on it for the film since it will be a Transformer in the film. They should have just completed their shoot at an Air Force base in New Mexico and at a White Sands missile range.
Also, Twentieth Center Fox has delayed the release of Fantastic Four 2 because of this film. The summer movie season is where the studios make 40% of their total annual revenue. The 4th of July weekend being the biggest. Transformers is being put out be DreamWorks and Paramount. Steven Spielberg said they have such faith in this project that they will go head to head with anyone on that weekend. So any film that was going to open then has ether pushed up their release date by two weeks, or delayed the opening by two weeks. I guess a movie produced by Steven Spielberg and directed by Michael Bay can do that. What it boils down to is everyone wants to make money, and the Transformers movie will have almost zero competion that weekend.
Here is post from Michael Bay:
We finished our first week. One of the best first weeks on a movie I've ever experienced. We shot over 250 set ups.
I'm working on the military aspects of the film right now in New Mexico at Hollaman Air Force base and the Army's White Sands missile base. The military has been stellar with us. This is the largest military cooperation since Pearl Harbor and Black Hawk Down.
Friday we shot two CV-22's (Ospreys). They fly like aliens dropping out of the sky. We also shot stealth fighters and low attack missile runs (50 feet off the deck) A10 Warthogs. They look so deadly and mean.
We also shot in an army tank grave yard, that has more tanks in it then all of Iraq. The military cast Josh and Tyrese are surrounded with top notch Seal Team members.
I almost dropped from heat stroke on Wednesday in the 118 degree heat. Several crew went down in the heat on these dunes. It is amazing how quickly it can come on - I now see how some of those football players drop dead from heat stroke.
The script reviews -- I've seen, have been great but - I know they read a 112 page draft that was on record of four months old, but the dates they have given are wrong. We have done so much work since then.
I just hope people don't spoil it for people hearing everything in the movie before they see the movie - that's so lame.
I've anticipated leaks for months so I keep the only shooting script in my computer. Nobody has it, not even actors get a full script. Steven Spielberg taught me this trick.
I must say I'm very excited about this movie, we have shot some awesome shots!!!
And it's hard to get me excited.
All the best,
Michael Bay
