I saw it this evening it was good. Ledger definitely did a great job. Two face make up was freaky. Not the best of all time but best I've seen since Cloverfield.
I loved the movie, I felt like it was coming to an end and was thinking "wtf thats it..." when it continued on for over an hour and had a great ending. I hope they can continue this line and keep improving it without selling out like every other series does.

Few comments:
1) i told my friends after seeing the Batman Begin a few years back... what the fuck is up with Christian Bale's voice. After seeing The Dark Knight, it's even more obvious than before. He does this strange like weird deep voice when he's in his Batman suit. I recently read some articles about his weird voice change on cnn.com and yahoo.com.
2) updates for possible Batman 3: rumor has it that Johnny Depp will be The Riddler, Angelina Jolie as The Catwoman, and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin. However, Chris Nolan has yet to sign on to direct a third movie and his brother (co-writer) Jonathan Nolan is still solely working on the new Terminator Series.
It's been said that they would likely not use the Penguin as a character, because he's to outlandish a character. Maybe Catwoman, or the Riddler..becuase they were hinted at.
I didn't like it as much the 2nd time, but it was easily the best superhero movie ever.
Its been a good summer for superheros. Iron Man was fantastic. Hulk was very good. Batman was on another planet.
Amen for living up to the hype.
Still pissed about Rachel Dawes though..
I was quite impressed with the movie. Definitely the best Batman so far, with Burton's first as a close second...
My FAVORITE take on the Joker.. Reminded me a lot of the Arkham Asylum graphic novel. That is the darkest, best written Batman story EVER, with the most demented, scary Joker. I also liked the few references to the Sons of Batman from Miller's Dark Knight. If they are looking for inspiration for the next movie, Arkham Asylum would work for a whole series...

I'm afraid that I am probably all alone here in saying that I was very disappointed in the film. I don't want to say too much but I found it too long and all over the place. I do however realise that I am the ONLY person I know who feels this way. I must of course aknowledge that Heath Ledger's performance is utterly amazing and worth the price of admission alone.

Wow I can't believe your argument about Bale. Saying he was bad for the part because he "is about as bad ass as Bozo the clown." I'm not buying your illogical argument as it stands. Yeah it's your opinion and you won't necessarily agree with mine but seriously how can you just hate on Bale like this. So what that Bale has good enough personal style to be on the cover of GQ? That makes him less of a bad ass on the screen? I can go on to state numerous actors who have posed in for magazines or hang out with questionable characters. For example, Will Smith is a bad ass and has been a bad ass in a number of movies (e.g., Independence Day, I am Legend, Enemy of the State) but yet he hangs out with fruity people like Tom Cruise. Does that make his movies less enjoyable or prevent you from being fully immersed in the experience?
Okay let me get this straight: You want Batman to be more bad ass like that of Joe Lauzon who has features that make you believe he can kick one's ass in the globe, which as a result would make you "immersed in the experience". I find that hard to believe since you contradict yourself by saying "Michael Keaton while not tough" did a better job than Bale. No way did Keaton ever display "I'm totally psychotic at any moment" in the movie. Hell he was more passive in his portrayal of Batman than Bale was. And there is no way in hell that Michael Keaton (and even George Clooney) could make anyone feel that they are the "toughest guy on the planet for the 2+ hours".
I'm usually not one for these summer "blockbusters"... more often than not they don't live up to the hype. however Dark Knight is a 2 1/2 hour flat-out thrill ride ! The 180 mil cost is all up there on the screen... strap yourself in and enjoy the ride !IMO

best batman ever...
no way keaton ever looked like he could kick my ass....the guy just looks like a pussy, even talks and acts like one..
not saying bale was much better, but to me the main character in this wasnt batman....the joker was the movie for me
I just watched the movie for the first time yesterday and I find it's great to see a forum on my favorite website. ;-) All I could say after the movie was... "wow" I'm not going to spoil anything but I have never had the privilage of seeing Batman this 'dark'. A true Batman. In my opinion the Tim Burton films with Michael Keaton were good, not as good as these current two but good. After that when Val and Clooney took over things just got silly. Batman Forever was about shiny suits and big bat nipples, Batman and Robin was about a 6'5" built Mr. Freeze. (Arnold) which by the way plays the the role so bad he breaks out into a song!? When was Mr.Freeze ever happy? This movie was just so very awesome in a lot of aspects. As what was said before in this post Ledgers performance makes you forget about his death simply because you forget who he is. He makes you "believe in the Joker". The only 'silly' element in this Batman is he's voice by far. It's over acting. If you have not seen this movie yet, do yourself a favor and go see it.
