About Jack Nicholson's joker.

Yeah, I was watching Batman, and all I saw, before I changed the station out of sheer boredom, was Jack Nicholson wearing make-up and a purple costume.

Watching Ledger I was watching the Joker. Not some guy dressed up in a movie.

I saw it this evening it was good. Ledger definitely did a great job. Two face make up was freaky. Not the best of all time but best I've seen since Cloverfield.

I loved the movie, I felt like it was coming to an end and was thinking "wtf thats it..." when it continued on for over an hour and had a great ending. I hope they can continue this line and keep improving it without selling out like every other series does.

Few comments:

1) i told my friends after seeing the Batman Begin a few years back... what the fuck is up with Christian Bale's voice. After seeing The Dark Knight, it's even more obvious than before. He does this strange like weird deep voice when he's in his Batman suit. I recently read some articles about his weird voice change on cnn.com and yahoo.com.

2) updates for possible Batman 3: rumor has it that Johnny Depp will be The Riddler, Angelina Jolie as The Catwoman, and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin. However, Chris Nolan has yet to sign on to direct a third movie and his brother (co-writer) Jonathan Nolan is still solely working on the new Terminator Series.

It's been said that they would likely not use the Penguin as a character, because he's to outlandish a character. Maybe Catwoman, or the Riddler..becuase they were hinted at.

I didn't like it as much the 2nd time, but it was easily the best superhero movie ever.

Its been a good summer for superheros. Iron Man was fantastic. Hulk was very good. Batman was on another planet.

Amen for living up to the hype.

I was quite impressed with the movie. Definitely the best Batman so far, with Burton's first as a close second...

My FAVORITE take on the Joker.. Reminded me a lot of the Arkham Asylum graphic novel. That is the darkest, best written Batman story EVER, with the most demented, scary Joker. I also liked the few references to the Sons of Batman from Miller's Dark Knight. If they are looking for inspiration for the next movie, Arkham Asylum would work for a whole series...

I'm afraid that I am probably all alone here in saying that I was very disappointed in the film. I don't want to say too much but I found it too long and all over the place. I do however realise that I am the ONLY person I know who feels this way. I must of course aknowledge that Heath Ledger's performance is utterly amazing and worth the price of admission alone.

Ugly Maggie Gyllenhaal is ugly. She was the worst thing about that movie. I've always hated Maggie Gyllenhaal and this only confirmed my previous thoughts. She's damn terrible and ugly. I know Tom Cruise is batshit insane and whatnot, but wryyy couldn't he let Katie Holmes play it again. She's not too bad, and has had some chemistry with Eckhart in the past in "Thank You for Smoking."

Which brings me to my next point, which is that Aaron Eckhart is a great actor. He's been the lead or co-lead in at least three awesome movies, Thank You for Smoking, In the Company of Men, and this one. After this, I think he's made my top 10 or 15 actor list.

It was ok. I don't like Christian Bale he just looks like a complete pussy and I have trouble buying him kicking anyone's ass. I know 13 year olds in Apopka who would beat that guy's ass up and down the block without much effort so watching him fight crime sort of took me out of the movie. His costume Batman voice sounds like a 10 year old making a prank call trying too hard to sound like their father. I did like the movie overall although I just think they could've picked a name out of a hat and came up with someone better then that Bale guy for a bad ass like Batman. Christian Bale is about as bad ass as Bozo the clown.

I don't think any of the Batman actors have been particularly "tough" upon first glance. Michael Keaton? George Clooney? Val Kilmer? Maybe Kilmer, but meh. Additionally, most big-brawny type guys are horrible actors. Stallone, Schwartzenneger, Dolph Lundgren, Carl Weathers, Vin Diesel, etc. I'd rather have a good actor than some dude with man-titties any day.

Further, if you think you have to be built like a brick shithouse in order to be tough I suggest you might revisit that theory. I know a Navy Seal that you would, I'm sure, not be physically impressed with. He's 5'10" and looks fairly skinny. I wouldn't advise writing him off as a complete pussy just based on that. Point being, acquired skill and athletic ability trumps pure brawn in most instances.

It's not about being built. I didn't even imply that. It's Christian Bale's look, he looks like a scruffy backstreet boy type. Let me take that back he IS the scruffy pretty boy backstreet boy type. He does GQ and Calvin Klein style gay ass ads and shit all the time. Him and Justin Timberlake look like they'd make good best friends. If you do a google image search on him at least half the pictures on the first page look gay as hell. That's just not Batman to me.

Believe me I know plenty of 5 foot nothin guys who aren't to be played with. Christian Bale is just a glorified magazine cover though. I'd fight the guy with 2 broken legs sittin in a wheel chair. It's not to say all guys who look like pussies ARE pussies. All you have to do is look at Joe Lauzon from the UFC to know a guy who looks like a total nerd can fuck you up BUT for me in a movie it has to be believable and even Joe Lauzon who actually could kick peoples asses wouldn't be able to make me believe it in a Batman style role. In a movie I want to be immersed in the experience. I have to believe that Batman is the toughest guy on the planet for the 2+ hours I'm sitting there. I just cannot buy Christian Bale being the toughest guy on the playground at a kindergarten let alone the whole world.

Michael Keaton while not tough has that whole edgy "I may go totally psychotic at any moment" thing about him. He just doesn't seem totally stable even when he's playing a stable character. For me he's been the only Batman that pulled off the character even though he was a little older then he probably should've been when he played the role and he did it all being way LESS built then gay ass Christian Bale.

Wow I can't believe your argument about Bale. Saying he was bad for the part because he "is about as bad ass as Bozo the clown." I'm not buying your illogical argument as it stands. Yeah it's your opinion and you won't necessarily agree with mine but seriously how can you just hate on Bale like this. So what that Bale has good enough personal style to be on the cover of GQ? That makes him less of a bad ass on the screen? I can go on to state numerous actors who have posed in for magazines or hang out with questionable characters. For example, Will Smith is a bad ass and has been a bad ass in a number of movies (e.g., Independence Day, I am Legend, Enemy of the State) but yet he hangs out with fruity people like Tom Cruise. Does that make his movies less enjoyable or prevent you from being fully immersed in the experience?

Okay let me get this straight: You want Batman to be more bad ass like that of Joe Lauzon who has features that make you believe he can kick one's ass in the globe, which as a result would make you "immersed in the experience". I find that hard to believe since you contradict yourself by saying "Michael Keaton while not tough" did a better job than Bale. No way did Keaton ever display "I'm totally psychotic at any moment" in the movie. Hell he was more passive in his portrayal of Batman than Bale was. And there is no way in hell that Michael Keaton (and even George Clooney) could make anyone feel that they are the "toughest guy on the planet for the 2+ hours".

I'm usually not one for these summer "blockbusters"... more often than not they don't live up to the hype. however Dark Knight is a 2 1/2 hour flat-out thrill ride ! The 180 mil cost is all up there on the screen... strap yourself in and enjoy the ride !IMO

I just watched the movie for the first time yesterday and I find it's great to see a forum on my favorite website. ;-) All I could say after the movie was... "wow" I'm not going to spoil anything but I have never had the privilage of seeing Batman this 'dark'. A true Batman. In my opinion the Tim Burton films with Michael Keaton were good, not as good as these current two but good. After that when Val and Clooney took over things just got silly. Batman Forever was about shiny suits and big bat nipples, Batman and Robin was about a 6'5" built Mr. Freeze. (Arnold) which by the way plays the the role so bad he breaks out into a song!? When was Mr.Freeze ever happy? This movie was just so very awesome in a lot of aspects. As what was said before in this post Ledgers performance makes you forget about his death simply because you forget who he is. He makes you "believe in the Joker". The only 'silly' element in this Batman is he's voice by far. It's over acting. If you have not seen this movie yet, do yourself a favor and go see it.
