Maybe a 3. The movie seem to try so hard to be Tarantino-ish, even getting Quentin to direct a scene, but it falls flat. There's no depth to any of the characters. You neither like nor dislike them. You just don't care. And as I said, the story (what there is of it) can't carry itself so all the characters are CONSTANLY talking to themselves (in voiceover, in otherwords narrating to the audience). It gets very annoying about half way through the film. By that time, I had completely lost interest.

what a punch of crap, actually. it sure looks like all the famous actors decided to make a fun trip to europe, and spice the movie with cameo- and inside-jokes. honestly, can't recommend it to anyone.
worse that ocean's 11.

I currently watch the well done Band of Brothers series and have seen Bertolucci's The Dreamers recently. What a difference if you think about that both fims are about americans in france with just 25 years in between.

last night i watched: ash wednesday (-02). out of a good plot, how the hell did they manage to make it so boring ?
pure suffering to watch it, and the relief is the end.

Plot Summary for
Ash Wednesday (2002)

Hell's Kitchen on Ash Wednesday, 1983. Rumors are flying that Francis Sullivan's younger brother Sean, dead for three years, has reappeared. If he wasn't killed by rivals, then old scores still need settling, putting Fran and Sean in danger. An upstart is pressuring the local mob boss, who's Fran's protector; Sean's wife, who thinks she's a widow, has gotten on with her life, but Sean has come back for her. The parish priest, part of the initial deception, is frightened. Bad guys with guns are closing in. Can Fran get Sean and his wife out of the city, avoid a war between rival factions, and hold onto new-found morality? Will the cross of ashes on his forehead protect him?
