Okay, I saw Star Wars 3 and I was not too impressed. I'll break my reason down to various points:

1. Story Line: Like many Hollywood movies, Star Wars 3 suffers from the idea that the best way to get an international hit is to have a bunch of big name stars, lots of special effects, blow things up, and scrimp on an actual story line since properly translating a story so that it reaches a wide range of audiences from an international perspective to age and subculture perspective is hard. Thus screw the story line.

The second half of the movie was better than the first half but that was more due to the fact that it started to explain much of the basis for the original Star Wars (Star Wars 4). If I had not seen the original I would have questioned why this movie was made- - -it does not stand by itself which is bad because I think a sequel (prequel) should be able to stand alone regardless of any movie it's related to.

2. Special Effects: Decent but not really much better than you'll see on some Saturday morning kiddie shows.

3. Natalie Portman: Hey, I'm a male so it does affect my view of the movie if I think she's hot. She looks quite good in the second half of the movie but does not look so good in the first half.

Executive Summary: Don't waste your money on it. Rent it when it comes out. It's not worth buying because while you might like it enough to have seen it once you probably won't have any great desire to see it again.

[Note: I did not see Star Wars II since Star Wars I sucked so much.]
[Note 2: Any longer and I would have to change my name to Jeff.]

you are still welcome to your opinion, but you DID miss some story line in not seeing episode II that may have skewed your view....

Eric: That's why I noted that I did not see episode II. I realized that it is possible that having seen II may have enhanced the viewing of episode III. This point, though, reinforces my comment that each episode should be able to stand on its own because it would seem from what you said that it's necessary to see II in order to appreciate III (not fully appreciate but just appreciate). As a stand alone movie I don't think it makes the cut.

I saw the first three, like everybody I guess. Then went to see Episode I and fell asleep in the theater. It sucked. Never saw Episode II. I saw Episode III today and it was...ok. The only thing worth seeing is the transition Annikan makes from being a Jedi to Vader. Of course, someone could just tell you that in about two minutes and save you the money and time you'd spend watching the movie.

i saw all of em. 1 and 2 reluctantly, 3 semireluctantly. not even the biggest fan of the originals.

Here's my opinion on #3: (no spoiler)

1. It was EXACLY, perfectly, dead on what I expected.

2. I was annoyed by all of the special effects for the sake of special effects (coorisant, crossiant, SP?)

3. It was the third star wars movie.
