Black trousers, white shirt, tie and jacket. every day. sports was shorts and house colour top + white socks. In sixth form, i had to wear a suit. a proper suit.

1. did you ever HAVE to wear uniforms for school?

Oh yeah. I went to Culver Academy in Indiana for two years.

2. what kind of uniforms? (gym, everyday, sports etc)

faux Military

Sure why not? In the real world adults wear uniforms all the time. The UPS guy is in Brown; Doctors look like well doctors, even Wal-mart people were blue shirts. Besides if you think about it kids do wear uniforms already. Each clique has their own way of dressing. Goths/emos, Preps, Jocks, "nerds", even gang-bangers. The only difference is that here the kids get to decide which "uniform" they wear. No one in High school is an individual everyone tries to fit into some group.

That is the perfect argument for wearing uniforms, school shouldn't be a fashion show, or a place to show your gang colors, but it should be a place for learning in order to be able to survive in the ever changing world we live in...

and of course every time we had a game, we were supposed to wear them to school to show our school pride and all, so i did.

i dont think school uniforms should be mandatory, its more hassel and headache than its worth in my opinion. plus i think its easy for us to stand over here and be able to say "oh yeah its a good idea" but kids hate that shit. people say its for kids to look alike and to help the ones with less money to feel better about themselves... but those kids with more money are still going to be wearing some ridiculously high priced sneakers, the girls are still going to be wearing really nice jewelry, and theyre going to be caring better cell phones and ipods then even WE do. plus on top of that it seems like all kids hate the uniform deal, no matter how much income your family has.

i had to wear a school uniform, and you could always tell the poor kids. ie mh white polo shirt - it'd be an adidas one, or a nike one, or a ralph lauren one etc... the poor kids wore 2.99 ones from asda.

my shoes would be BASE, and once even Prada in high school, and the poor kids would have Lookalike fake Kickers, so from a finance point of view thats a load of crap.

Now my old school insists on Blazers ETC. I know one parent who when her daughter went to the school, it cost her nearly 300 quid to kit her out. now how the hell does that help poor people. used to be black trousers / skirt, shoes, white t shirt and black sweater when i was there. now they have blazers, can only wear the official school t gym kit, not allowed branding on socks or anything, school coats, and bags etc. its rediculous. BUT - it does make for a nice school photo/

@ monicamonica - i deleted your 3-4 posts because they were nothing but pictures of porn. im sure that most people on this site would agree that girls in the whole school uniform outfit is hot, but please do not post porn in the lounge. this is a discussion thread only.

@ benthomas - yeah you make some good points, thats kind of what i was trying to get at with my post as well.

1. yes 2. navy blue pants, white shirt, tie (clip on ) and charcoal blazer. 3. my catholic school's intent of keeping all the kids "uniform " helped with the disciplne that was a huge part of catholic school.... has it's pros and cons I think.

maybe if the school tells of the uniform but leaves the choice of the purchase to the parent..
here (city where i live at least) if you go to a private school where uniform is compulsory....the parents purchase the uniform from the SCHOOL, helping the school at the
same time. Meaning ALL kids wear the same shirts, same brand pants, same school bags etc....all with the the school logo on it, NO brands showing

Yeah, I did in highschool. Girls in school uniforms are sexy, but after a while it becomes common place.

1. did you ever HAVE to wear uniforms for school?
The Catholic HS I went to had uniforms. Funny thing is the Catholic grade school I went to didn't have a mandatory dress policy per se. Mind you this was back in the 80's. There was a girl in my grade who was really into Duran Duran back when they were popular. The joys of going to a Catholic grade school with a public school dress policy. Besides, I participated in sports growing up (need I say more).

2. what kind of uniforms? (gym, everyday, sports etc)
Black dress pants and either a white or yellow button-down Oxford shirt in high school along with a yellow shirt and red shorts for gym class.

3. do you think its a good idea for schools to make uniforms for everyday use compulsory? and why?
Heck yes! No need for pants sagging half-way down theis butts or dressing like a slut.
