PS3 Vs. Xbox 360

Ok, I have a choice here. I can either get Xbox 360 or PS3. I was leaning towards PS3 b/c it has better specs, and its a blu-ray player (I'm a supported of Blu-ray more than HD-DVD b/c I'm a supporter of those companies like Apple). Though I recently got addicted to the first Halo. I'm switching to Apple and can't play the other Halos on PC (Halo 2 is Vistas only, and I know about the patches to make it playable on PC, but my PC isn't that strong). So now I'm leaning towards the stripped down version of Xbox 360 b/c of the Halo games. Any thoughts one way or another would be great! Thanks.

ever since I bought the 360 I've hated it. I don't have the funds right now for a PS3. But the improvement over the old xbox isn't enough with the 360 to be meaningful. I personally have felt ripped off since the day I bought the 360. I'd go PS3 if you've got the cash...definitely. Xbox always has and always will suck, with the exception of the Halo games and a very few select other games there's no reason to own one. The PS3 beats it to death graphically, they just haven't had many PS3 exclusives yet so nobody has taken full advantage of what that system is capable of. Once it comes down in price and more people own them and the game makers start focusing more on showing what the PS3 can do, the 360 won't even be mentioned in the same sentence and it will be looked at as a sub-par system much like the dreamcast a few years back.

get a 360, it actually has good games out now, and plenty more coming really soon. i'd probably wait a little while before you get it though, so you can make sure you get one with the new processer that runs cooler(hopefully no red ring). the only drawback for the 360 is the red ring of death, otherwise the 360 is hands down better. If your going to play online then you have to get a 360 xbox live is a million times better than the psn. i guess it really depends on what you want though.

Xbox 360 sold 528 000 units in September, when PS3 sold 119 400. LoL.

xbox 360 if u intent to play games online.... Which is the best part of the system! Runs smooth and halo 3 is just freakin awesome!

of course the xbox has sold more, Ascaris. That's all about the price tag. Plus all the halo fan boys had to buy one just so they can get their nerd on. Doesn't reflect shit upon the quality of the system. The thing fuckin sucks. As soon as I can afford a PS3 I'm gonna turn my 360 into a pinata.

We see things completely differently. I love my 360 is really is a great console, minus the annoying breakages. Whilst that is a big minus for the system but the warranty covers it so it isn't too bad. The 360 has loads of amazing games, or atleast ones i like.

Don't take this list as 100% accurate i knocked it up from memory quickly. That is a quick list of games that are out or out soon for 360 that will score or have scored from 8-10 making them good-great games. The vast majority are worth purchasing if you like the genres.

No doubt i've missed some games off those but to me that looks like alot of good/great games. I fail to see how PS3 is any better than that, or is likely to be anytime soon. Most hyped games for the ps3 so far have either flopped or come in as okay. Other than the remake of Ninja Gaiden i don't see anything that has come in and got amazing scores. Heavely sword was okay, but not as good as people hoped, Lair was terrible. R&C looks good as does Uncharted, but MGS 2 6 months away? FF XIII is 12 months + away?

The ps3 does not have better graphics. No doubt it will down the line, but so far the best looking games are on 360. When FF XIII comes out no doubt they will beat the 360, but we aren't talking world apart hear. we are talking 5-10% or something relativley small. When you take into consideration the "Super Computer Cell", The Blu-Ray etc, it really isn't worlds apart like Sony wanted us to believe.

I'm not bashing the PS3 either. I plan on gettting one when FF XIII comes along with some other good games. It is another good console, but it does not have as many good games as the 360, nowhere near. Maybe in a year or 2 things will be different, by which time the 360 will have had a 3-4 year life at the top or near the top, so it will nto be a flop at all, not like the dreamcast anyway.

Things are going from bad to worse for the PS3. It's too expensive, it's short on games, it's not selling on any continent and it's proving difficult to program with mufti format games taking longer to be released on PS3, and some have been technically poorer.

Yes it's more powerful but this rate the 360 will be adopted as the major format for 3rd party developer and all the PS3 will get is ports for the majority of games.

Thanks for all the input I really appreciate it. Look, I hate Microsoft just as much as the next person, but from what I've read they have more game titles, not to mention the games I want to play. PS3 is an excellent console, but it won't have the games I want, and it won't get good games at least for another year. What games do come out for PS3 will most likely also be out for Xbox 360. Though a little tidbit of info I also found out that you can't play Halo 2 on the Xbox arcade. you need to get the middle version of the Xbox to play the old Xbox games. they are good at making money though... Xbox 360, I own two. They're a great system and even if you dont have HD You can play it, PS3 is limited to HD and well...they don't offer a replacement plan as good as microsofts either. I had a Video Card Blow in my one xbox 360 cause I was playing it in too hot of temp. and they replaced it with a new system no questions asked. Plus dude, Halo 3 is out, and new games are coming like jericho, 360 FTW

Also there is no middle system anymore, they done away with the core bundle and now you can get the good pack with the 20 gig hard drive for like 249, that beats out what? 599 for a PS3?

Yes the PS3 is more powerful, but like someone already said its ALOT harder to program for and as a result the games arent showing the power. Take Madden 08 for example....it looks ALOT better on 360 then PS3 and runs smoother.

Also who cares about how powerful the system is if it doesnt have any good games to go along with it. The PS3 has one good thing going for it right now and thats Metal Gear Solid 4, ill buy one just for that game then beat it and return the PS3 all within 48 hours. Then Ill go back to playing Forza Bioshock or Halo 3 on my 360 over Xbox live.

after owning a ps1 and ps2 for years and years i always thought i would get a ps3 when they came out, up until recently i had only played the original xbox maybe twice in my life and never got into it because i had the ps2, but 3 weeks ago i made my decision and bought the xbox 360 and i couldnt be happier, i think they are fantastic. if i had to choose again i would go with xbox 360 anyday. best purchase i have made this year.

Madden 08 better on XBox 360? Maybe, but who the hell plays sports games? I sure as hell don't. If I wanna play football, I will grab a real one, go out, and go at it. Let's talk about recently released Call of Duty 4. Hands down, it is graphically superiorer on the PS3 over the 360.

I sold my computer for a PS3 because it could run Yellow Dog Linux. I'm doing fine right now, doing homework on Linux and switching to the PS3 OS to play games. Actually, I'm typing this message from the PS3 right this moment.

Oh and by the way, the games for PS3 that are coming out are going to be amazing. By the end of next year, XBox 360 will be lagging behind PS3. Never been a big Halo Fan, though I am looking forward to the movie.

Just to name a few titles worth the wait...

I'm not saying the PS3 won't be amazing in a years time when GT5, MGS, FF XIII come out. However the 360 has been out 2 years and has been very good for two years. Right now it is really strong and is going to be so over the next year.

By the time the PS3 gets going at full speed, the 360 will have already had 3 great years. 3 years is a long time, while alot of PS fans wait.

Me i'll enjoy my 360 now and get a ps3 when it heats up.

Based on what you said, the PS3 is what you would enjoy the most, all technical and philosophical reasons aside. It does not break (1% failure rate compared to 360's 33%) down when you try to play games on it. Like al the Playstations before it, the power in reserve will provide improving titles in the years to come. PS3 is in it for the long haul, just look and see how many PS2 games are still available compared to xbox. If you played Halo, then Halo 3 is not exactly a great change aside from multiplayer. Apparently Halo 3 does not even run at 720p (and it says 1080 on the box I think), which is unforgivable in my book. Xbox live, you have to pay for it, PS3 online is free, nuff said. I am a Mac user myself, and I left the windows world for a reason. Microsoft will get my money when they start producing a quality product. Of course that's just the way i feel about it. And may I say, Killzone 2, Rachet and Clank, Gran Turismo, Coded Arms, etc. Plenty to look forward to.

That's what i constantly see from PS fans. The Ps3 is the future, it's future proof, 2009 is going to be the year, FF XIII, MGS etc. While they wait for the great games i am already playing them on 360.

2005/2006 - 360 first to launch so it was the best then.
2006/2007 - 360 was better than PS3
2007/2008 - 360 better than PS3 so far.

This is based on my perspective of the games i like to play that the console was offering.
The PS3 may be great somwhere down the line, but what about the previous 2 years? what about now? If i would have invested in a PS3 instead of a 360, i'd be pretty bored to be honest.

If you are only getting a console now, or even in a years time, then maybe the PS3 is the right choice, however this generation doesn't start next year when ps3 finally gets it's big games, it started 2 years ago. Since then the 360 has been on top with some amazing games.

I will give you the failure rate of the 360 is appauling. It's crazy how a product can make it to market that is so flawed. However from the 34 days mines been broke i have received 62 days xbox live and a game, so honestly i can't complain.

If my console was to be broke 3/8 weeks, bu tin return i got a months live free and a game, i would take it. It might seem strange to some people, but free live and a game everytime it breaks is awesome for me. I don't need to play it all the time, i will spend my time doing something else instead. If you play your console daily i can understand that this is unacceptable. However i don't so aslong as they keep giving me stuff in return, i'm more or less happy.

As for the Live is $$ and PSN is free, nuff said. Is it? Is PSN as good as Live?, the general consensus would be no. When the PSN is actually equal or better than Live, which it may be some day, then i would feel ripped off and want a change. As it stands Live is seemingly better, so i don't mind paying a small fee.

Halo 3 640/720/1080, i honestly don't care. I don't care if my 360 or ps3 games run in 720 or 1080 or less as long as they look good. Halo 3, whilst not the best looking game ever, is a good looking game. I've never once looked at halo 3 and though man this looks horrible it sucks. It's a good if not amazing looking game. Some games run in 60fps on 360 compared to ps3 30fps, so it's not like the ps3 is generations ahead of the 360 if at all. Again, 30 fps, 60 fps, i don't care, aslong as it looks good. If i suffer from bad numbers, okay there is a problem. If it has low numbers but is still good looking, then i don't mind.

Uhhh...where the hell did you get 2 years? These games will be released in 2008.

You're obviously a Halo fan. Too unrealistic. GRAW 2, R6: Vegas, COD 4 is all I have to say. Besides, Resistance: Fall of Man > Gears of War.

I think that would keep you busy for a long while. And like I said before, PS3 is a work & a play thing. XBox 360 is exclusively a play thing. I sure as hell would not pay for Live. I'd rather have a crappier PSN then to pay for Live. Also, we get Playstation Home for free when it release, which will kill Live.

Where did i say those game would take 2 years? I said the 360 has been out 2 years and has been on top for 2 years, both of those statements are true. I said some of those games are coming 2009 which is true. MGS is delayed again, and FF XIII looks a long time of yet, we haven't even seen a demo, so by the time it reaches the U.S or U.K here it probably will be 2009.

Why say Halo is too unrealistic then you go onto list 3 games that you could get on 360 instead. You could get GRAW, R6V & COD 4 on 360 instead of Halo. You say Halo is unrealistic then you list a load of games, most of which are as unrealistic as Halo. WTF??
Am i a Halo fan, yes i am. It is undoubtably a good game, it is that simple whether you are a fanboy or not. Mario isn't really my type of game, but i can appreciate Mario Galaxy looks really good as does Zelda.

Heavenly Sword isn't my kind of game, but decent nontheless.
Resistence is a cool game, but gears is better.
Dirt Multplatis decent, but i could get it on my 360 if i wanted it, but i don't.
Motorstorm is decent, but like dirt i don't want it.
Flow "There's not an awful lot of game here, but flOw still makes for an attractive and soothing showpiece - GS Review." and it's an arcade game, i'm not going to mention any of the XBLA games which rock.
Tekken 5 is good but i'm not into fight games, i won't be getting VF 5 for 360 or ps3.
Oblviion was out on 360 about a year before ps3, and a long time before that on pc.
The Darkness is Multiplat, i could get it on my 360 is i wanted it.
Jericho is an average shooter on all consoles.
Folklore is an average game.

Basically what you have listed there is an average list of games that score 7's or 8's what's so great about them? 4/10 are multplats and the highest scoring one on the list a 9 is an old game which got better ratings on 360 and is also on pc a long time before 360 and a lifetime before ps3.

If i already own a 360 now , or a year ago, or even 2 years ago, what reason do i have to buy a ps3 right now? a bunch of average-good games half of which are multiplats and generally better on 360.

Using GS as a example the ps3 has 4 games that scored a 9. 3 of those 4 are multiplats. 2 out of those 3 multiplats got a better rating on 360 than ps3. So why would i purchase a new system to buy a slightly inferior product. the 360 has 11 games that scored a 9.

PS3 9's - 4 (3 on 360, 2 are better on 360)
360 9's - 11 (3/4 on PS3, none of them with a better score on ps3)

Do you see what i'm saying? at this moment in time, last year and the year before the 360 has better games. The main aspect of a console is games. That is something the 360 has in abundance, so quit hating on something it for that. The PS3 has many great features over the 360, but as of the past 2 years and i would argue for a while yet, it does not have better games.

I do like Halo, although i don't love it, but i'm not a fanboy. I'm currently playing FF VI & FF XII on my ps2 along with some 360 games, and im planning on gettting a DS soon (Anyone know where i can get a great deal?) I also do plan on getting a PS3 in future, mainly for FF along with some other stuff.

It would appear you don;t like 360, which is fair enough, you don't like it, it's your choice. But to side with the ps3 for games is kind of weird, considering that is the area where the ps3 is weakest so far.
