It is the
VETERAN,
not the preacher,
who has given us freedom of religion.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble.
#4687838
It is
the VETERAN,
not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the politician,
Who has given us the right to vote.
#4687840
It is the
VETERAN who
salutes the Flag,

ABD,

Probably the most unique, and one of the best Memorial tributes I've seen on a forum.

Um, you're going on a on about "veterans," but, um, this isn't Veterans Day. That's later.

Also, there's a lot of people on this site who aren't American, so they might find your praise of the US military, you know, relevant or appropriate or whatever.

WW II ? That is like....ancient history, no ?

Memorial Day will always mean different things to different people.

And more importantly, to different Vets. As you note, your reference is WWII. For those that were disabled or died in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan it is an entirely different issue.

Very few if any of the "if you can..xxxxxxx, it is because of a Vet" references that you cite apply to blood shed by Americans in wars since WW II.
