old school punks?

i was just wondering how many of you ppl here on WBW are old school punk rockers? the late 70's - early 80's punk rock, not the happy, glittery crap now-a-days. i'm talking about sittin' in a dark dank club, mohawks everywhere, beer bottles and cigarette butts on the floor, and the band is belching out sweet riffs with unintelligble (sp?) screams over it.
misfits, the vandals, sex pistols......etc., etc.

Methinks this belongs under the Music Forum... BUT...

I wouldn't say ALL of today's punk is happy & glittery... just the pop-punk is. All you have to do is look at AFI to see that IMO... (And I bet those emo fans would also argue the point, but you won't see me defending that crap!) But classic punk is cool, too... Sex Pistols & The Ramones are on the top of that list... Though I am really an old school heavy metal fan... and I love some of the newer Metalcore stuff, too...

MIsifits are my all time favorite band!!! sexpistols were pretty good. I used to listen to the exploited and dead kennedys as well. I love the Ramones. Operation Ivy was great too but they are a lot newer. I was really more of a metal head though. Slayer, Metallica, megadeth, overkill,testament,exodus,pantera and S.O.D. to name a few favs!

I was an old school punk. I wore my own self-painted leather jacket, army boots (never, ever Docs bought at the mall), and once saw Dead kennedys, Naked Raygun, Criminally Insane and Crucifucks at a quad-bill show in Chicago. I remember shaving myself a fresh mohawk for the occasion. And by that I mean a REAL mohawk, with the sides of my head baby's-ass-bald. You were not accepted in my circle unless or until you had your first bloody nose as a result of slamming, and no, it's not "moshing", it's called slamming. It has always *been* slamming. These kids who think they are punks today, I just utterly laugh at them. They have no fucking idea whatsoever. They're about absolutely nothing. Bloated, lazy, meaningless.

black flag is always good. let's not forget the exploited, and do the dead milkmen count? anyhoo if your in chicago you should check out a couple of clubs, neo (dj booth) and fireside bowl (live bands).
oh yeah, i have a fauxhawk because my job wouldn't allow the real thing. does that mean i'm not real punk rock? probably.

That is a hard decision because i havent heard a punk song in years, i say that because nothing that has come out in years has actually been punk, punk is not a sound its a way of life

Nah i like the ramones but i was a wee babe when the sex pistols were around. I like punk via MXPX and Green Day and slick shoes!!!

I didn't realize that Jimmy Eat World was punk...but I enjoy them nontheless

old school is so much better, i like to listen to the business, chaos uk, casualties, disorder, splodgenessabounds, peter an the test tube babies, toy dolls, sham 69, resistance 77 to name a few

Here lately all punk has become is Emo.... And that is sad.
