You should try an animal that doesn't hibernate then. Animals that have a lot of Type II muscle fibers (fast twitch) have more white meat, where as animals that sit around an slowly metabolize their fat stores have a lot type I fibers, which make up dark meat, which, obviously, is more fatty.

So, the other day, I'm in the parking lot at school, and because of my awesome tinted windows, you can't see me, but I can see you.

So, if you pull up next to me, don't pick your nose for like 10 minutes, giving me enough time to pull out my camera.

I'm not going to name names....since I'm not a total D-bag.

But someone on this site isn't aware of how decent a movie Major Payne is. They're mocking it, like it's the worst thing since Glitter.

They are fully mistaken. That movie is a hard 6.

Better than average.

Come on you guise..srsly.

You know I heard you been giving these boys a hard time. Infact I heard you couldn't cut it, in a real mans military. I heard that it's time for you, to leave.

If by bj, you mean two-handed nose pick, then yes that's what's going on in that picture.

That's very interesting. I'm going to have to look into that further because I thought only birds had "white meat" even though those pork producers have long suggested otherwise.

Basically, it has to do with whether a majority of the animal's muscle operates aerobically (Type I fibers) or anaerobically (Type II fibers)

Birds is too generic, generally.

Non-migratory birds have less fatty meat (Type I muscular tissue [slow twitch], which is aerobic) than migratory birds.

Fast twitch fibers are anaerobic, they don't work for long periods of time, and thus generally generate predominate in animals with a fast metabolism able to break down what they eat quickly into glycogen.

Slow twitch fibers can operate for long periods of time, as they're aerobic, and thus can use fat as a fuel source, instead of pure glycogen. Because of this, birds that are migratory, and who need to fly for extended periods of time have more type I muscle, which is the heavier, fattier kind.

Animals that hibernate go long periods without food, and rely on their large stores of fat to be broken down to generate their nutrients. By necessity, since they're not eating, they can't have highly metabolic type II fibers in large amounts, and therefore will tend to have fatty meats.

*Edit: I just looked at the wiki, and they have a good chart with the fuel sources corresponding to muscle types (along with other things like oxidative capacity v. gylcolitic capacity [aerobic v. anaerobic respiration, respectively]) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muscle_fibers#Muscle_fibers

I wonder if this thread counts as studying?

Ah, so it's not really a "white" vs "dark" thing that determines whether it's a type I or II muscle (except apparently in birds)

Mammals only have "red meat" right, but they still have both types of muscle. I'm finding this very interesting, I did not realize the difference in muscle types.
