Well, talking would be the wrong word. It is repeating a setence over and over to me.

I have speakers plugged in, and it sonds like the voice is coming from the tower itself.

Its too garbled to hear properly, but I swear I can hear something like "We Have A Problem".

The motherboard is this one: .http://www.pcnextday.co.uk/product_detail.asp?stype=5&productcode=1450-1755&group=AOSA&pgroup=AOPM

I have tried taking everything out apart from the graphics card, CPU, and RAM, and it still does it. I tried both the Grpahics and RAM in my old computer, and it works ok, so it must be the new motherboard.

When I switch on, all the fans start spinning, and it sounds like it is starting up. Then this voice comes out, and just keeps repeating untill I switch it off at the mains.

Its a integrated thing in the new motherboards i got one doing that myself , the thing you have to do is to take your driver CD from the motherboard there should be a program called MB voice editor/ or winbond voice editor something like that...usually you can read about the programs on the CD, after you find it and installed it you just have to remove all the wave files and take no sound theme on the MB, if that is not the case its because something you have to do from your bios, i dont know where it is exactly but the bios is not big enough for you to get lost

Thats the problem. Its doing it as soon as I turn the computer on, and not getting anywhere, let alone to look at my CD contents.

There is a jumper on your mainboard where you can disable this function! Read the manual about this!

The feature isn't the problem. The voice is telling you something is wrong with the computer. Disabling it won't help. Fixing the computer will.

Exactly.

Problem is, I just paid over 6 quid to send it to these idiots. That was wednesday. Since then, I have not heard from them, despite sending them 2 emails asking if they recieved it. This is definately the last time I shop with these... people...

Got an email from them.

Apparently the motherboard is not at fault.

Seeing as the graphics card and RAM were both tested in my old computer, the onyl thing left that it could be is the CPU.

I emailed them and asked them if it was worth sending it to them, and am now waiting for a reply.

What are you on about? Should have *it*? What should I have? Useful books? The only halfway useful book I got was with the motherboard, and only that was helpful when it dealt with fitting.

Oh, and I asked PCND this, but i'll ask you lot too:
My heatsink was a right bitch to fit, I REALLY had to press hard to get it on (and im a strong lad). When it came to getting it off of the mobo to send the mobo back, I had to use a screwdriver, and accidentally chipped the cream lugs it attached to. Should it be that hard to remove/fit?

Just give it to me and I will take a long hard look at it and if it keeps doing that I will have to keep it

AMD prosseser's are usually tight to fit, however their also easy to damage, when I sell new motherboard & cpu combo's I always mount them before the board leaves the store that way I know it got installed right.Doe's the machine start to post when you first turn it on? If it doe's its a motherboard setting you have to deal with in Bios, your more then welome to send me a message.

Right, here is a lowdown:

Got an email from them, apparently there was a cock-up with the RMA numbers, and the mobo is faulty, so they refunded my money. I then went to overclock.co.uk and bought the "Abit NF7-S Rev. 2.0" and the "Thermaltake Silent Boost K7 AMD XP Cooler". Both came today, and I fitten them. The heatsink was hard to fit, but this one had the benefit of a hook, designed for flathead screwdrivers. With that extra leverage, it fitted fine. All is working ok (had to go buy another 40-pin ribbon cable, cause then only give you one for a HD, and none for the CD drives, but that was only 4 quid, so thats ok). I am currently answering th questions for the ACIPT course, then I can install WinXP, and im off!

Lol.

I may have overlooked a small factor: I dont have a version of windows!

The computer I am on now is a pre-fitted one from PCWorld, and all they gave me was this "product revoery CD". It has windows on it, but it also has everything else.

I tried it on my new computer (just cause I wanted to know), and it gave me the BSoD (Blue Screen of Death). So I formatted my HD and got rid of it all.

My Dad is swinging by tommorrow, and he is bringing his WindowsXP CD. Hopefully that should work, but apparently, he has to phone them up to get an activation code each time he installs WinXP. Do I have to do that, and can I fob my way past (in other words, will they ask for anything, like proof that it is mine?

It could be rahter difficult to install and run the same _legal_ xp as your dad... The product activating is made to prevent this kind of activity among users...

So I recommend you to get an illegal pirated/cracked copy of xp if you want to run it over 30 days, or crack that xp of your dad's. The crack is available in the internet somewhere...

XP pro enterprise-edition is nice, it doesn't have the activation at all
"the ease of use" as they say
