I just got a sony ericsson w810i cell and to my surprise it wont let me use my mp3s as ringtones, it says in the manuel that you cant use copywrited mp3s. Is there a way to fix an mp3 so the phone cant recognize it as copywrited? These are all music that I get from cds I have purchased myself.

ive never heard of a copyrighted mp3. i didnt think that format could contain a protection that would discern it as such. I know wma can do that.

I never knew they could be copywrited either. The only reason I think that, is in the manuel it says you can't use them and on the phone it will use mp3's that came w/ it for ringtones but not the ones i put on there.

i have a music phone from kyocera (i know they are different companies) but i have never had a problem yet with copyrighted mp3 ... do you use any sort of memory card and i'm assuming that its the mirco SD if you do use one. If you do just get a Card reader and copy it to the folder where your saved sounds are such as the last place that you go into before you save a new ringtone. or you can get an audio trimmer such as jetaudio and cut the songs down to parts you like or watever and you can save it as .mp3 and up the bitrate and then try it as a ringtone ... Good luck

Btw you can get jetaudio by googling jetaudio6 COWON America

easy fix, switch the format to .midi and make sure it under 300kb, it will work. However all phones have a 300kb limit unless you purchase the phones that have the mp3 players built in.

Yeah, the W810i is a sweet phone. I had the previous version, s710a, and the memory cards it used to hold mp3's would only go up to 128mb which was stupid so I switched to this one. I got a program the switched mp3's to midi's and the songs come out sounding like garbage so thats a no go. Anyone else have any other ideas?

Try getting a program to convert to aac format, my n70 plays mp3`s no problem for ringtone and i`v had aac format working too. I`ll try doing some searching for a program that does it as i use my nokia pcsuite to convert to aac.

AAC format doesn't work either. My phone can't even play that format as music. Any other ideas? I'm out
