He was a bust because of the over hyped expectations everyone had for him. He could have been a show-in for the HOF but he only had a few good years. NOTHING close to what everyone thought he would be. That isn't a personal feud. My personal gripe comes in when he thought he was too good to do the right thing and play for the team that drafted him. I would have had a lot more respect for him if he had signed a 1 year contract and them moved on.
His injuries derailed his career, but to say he was a bust is just wrong. In his prime, healthy, which was a number of seasons, he was one of the best players in the NHL. He was a Hart trophy winner. He was amongst the all time scoring greats. He took his team to the NHL Finals. These are not the actions of a bust.
Is he a hall of famer, no. Is he an all-time great, nope. Was he a bust, hardly.
As for Quebec, what makes you think that Quebec would have agreed to a one year contract? Professional sports contracts are geared against the players, espeically considering they're all basically monopolies and don't allow a player to take their skill-sets onto the open market to get equal market value for their talents. As such, I have a hard time chastising a player for telling a team that he doesn't want to play for them, for whatever reason.
