It leads me to believe that acting is some type of super rare skill that only like .0001% of the population actually has. There are literally thousands of aspiring actors in Hollywood who would do anything to get even the smallest role in a Samsung commercial but the best they can find is that? How bad are the people that didn't get the part? Or do they just hire the first person they see and say "fuck it"?

Most of those thousands aren't pretty enough to make it on camera.

And lots of other bad actors/actresses have industry connections.

I think it's not something that's particularly difficult, although it does probably require a bit of practice to get things to seem natural (plus you need a good script and a good director to make it all work too - if any of those things doesn't work then you're kind of fucked. Like, I'm guessing that robotic thing was what the director of that samsung commercial was going for because all three of the actors were acting in that same, completely unconvincing way. That's likely not a coincidence.)
