Channel 4 (British TV) have done a documetary where a nurse went round all the Premiership teams in England and asked if they would donate ONE day of their weekly wages...yes just one day.

Out of all the teams, Tottenham, Watford and Fulham (as far as i know) were the only teams to have ALL their players contribute to this.

This is the Shocker...

Chelsea...The WORLDS richest team, who have players like Michael Ballack, Frank Lampard, John Terry and Andriy Shevchenko who all earn over 120grand / week ($240,000/week) And NOT ONE player on this team would donate a days wages to the nurses that save our lives and get paid so little they cant afford to stay in the job anymore...

I didnt like Chelsea anyway but this takes the biscuit, its disgusting!

Anyone else watch it and/or have any views on this??

Apparently over 250 players have agreed...out of 556 or so...so still not too good. But they have raised nearly $2.5million for nurses funds

Ok if you ever see any of the players below, please throw something at them, preferably something, hard and sharp.

"Know." - As in "Knowledge."

"Knew." - As in... Okay, I can see why that's tricky.

Anyway, 50% participation in any charity event is pretty damned good. And many players already give to other charities or communities, so to judge them because they chose not to support this particular event is unfair and short-sighted.

In fact, you named Michael Ballack.

Link.

Link.

Link.

And those are the first three hits I found upon doing a search for "Michael Ballack Charity."

So... Slow down, Turbo, you're kind of being wrong... And loud about it.

Well Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpol the big clubs were there big players agreed dont you think they give to other charities aswell? Chelsea players arent the only players who give to charity AND contributed to this one day only event.

out of the top 4 teams in Prem, Chelski gave nothing, 2 ManYoo players and 3 Arsenal players....and 10 Liverpool players (good lads !)

the 4 teams that got their entire squad (26-28 players) to cough up all finished at the lower end of the table !!!

Well, quite obviously some of the people you're calling cheap and greedy are not. Ballack for example is a spokesman for one, founder of another, and activist for at least a third just based on the first three hits I got from my search.

So perhaps since we're making shit up as we go along and filling in holes based on hypotheticals and zealotry, one might be led to the conclusion that Chelsea players weren't giving as much before, so this pretty little nurse had to show up on their door to compel and coerce them to give a share proportionate to those such as Ballack.

In other words, no, dumbass. They quite obviously are charity oriented and do quite a bit already. The fact that they chose not to support this particular event is no big deal. The way you attacked them though is either the result of not having realized they might do other things and no one can do everything, or you're just malicious and wanted to talk shit about a football team you didn't like.

But no, Ballack and the others do their share I'd say, based on the articles I found with almost zero effort.

I in no way fault them for not supporting nurses. Nurses make career choices. They don't make terrible livings (to be honest, they really don't). Starving babies is a bigger problem, as is AIDS, as is Darfur, and the list could go on and on.

So no, I completely disagree with your assertions throughout the entire thread. You're jumping the gun and being unfair. If anything, I'm kind of ticked at the players that gave to nurses instead of to those that might be more in need, just because a cute one happened to come to their doorsteps.

But what about the players that do the same as Ballack and did this - for ONE DAY...remember?!? Its only one. And for the shit all these players do (or dont) They should be giving 50% of their wages away...But footballers in general being stupidly overpaid is another story.

And if this was my own team players Wolves who had done it i would be just as critical, and they dont get nearly the wages these prem teams do. And i no some of them do charity work but i'd still want them to give to this one...Its the likes of nurses that deserve to be getting paid well...not footballers.

And i do like the points your making Tarquin, yea i probably did jump the gun and critcise too quickly...but this is one charity i think they all should have agreed to, because it is only one day, no long term...the only sad thing is they might have to wait two more weeks to buy there new sports car.

first off: they are overpaid!

secondly: the study is bullshit and here's why:

1.) why only nurses? why not firemen? or docs? or plice officers? they do save lifes everyday too.
2.) charity is a pain in the ass. as soon as you give one a few bucks, you get at least 10 letters the next day to donate to them too. That goes up to a few hundred letters a week. who responds to them? you got it: an employee. who pays that employee? you got it again: the star/celeb/football pro...
3.) nurses are the better persons. i wouldnt agree with this. think of it the other way around and you will see that a football pro player works to entertain millions of people on a saturday. if they suck, many people lose money and some even have to close their buisness if the entire team sucks.

still i agree that they are overpaid.

Understood, Lobo.

I happen to feel other charities and focuses should be more of a priority. Each person will have their own views. I'd also point out that whether over-paid or not in any field, the money is indeed theirs, and anything they give is a gift.

If we want to argue the inequity of salaries for certain sects of society, I am indeed on board!

But that's not the issue at hand.
