According to this then, we should start all things as illegal and have to prove scientifically that they should be legal. From this perspective, non-monogamous sex should be illegal. It costs society and the public much more per year than legalizing drugs ever could. Don't say I am being absurd if you aren't going to explain how we should allow people to engage in a behavior that causes death and misery every day, costs many billions per year for welfare, abortions, medical care for disease, etc.

I prefer to begin from the standpoint that everything should be legal until you can find a reason to make it illegal. Medical costs should not be considered as overeating, unsafe sex, and other choices are not.

Well, I smoke a little myself. But I only have one real source. and it's kind of a weak one sometimes. I'll call this guy, and he tells me he'll make some calls and get back to me. He usually does, then he comes down to get the money. (I trust him.) And then he goes to get the weed. Between the first phone call, and actually holding a bag in my hand, anywhere from 2 to 6 hours could pass.

Anything that eliminates that pain in the ass, I'm all for it.

Tons of lawyers, judges, doctors, engineers smoke all the time.

I don't know about you, but personally I don't want a high judge presiding over any case involving me, no high lawyer defending me, no stoned Surgeon operating on me, and I certainly wouldn't knowingly live in a building designed by someone while stoned. I've got no problem with someone wanting to smoke pot, but just like alcohol, where its use can endanger the public in any way it should be illegal.

Your just buying the propoganda of governments and those who wish to keep matters criminal so tht the contractors who build prisons and employ them will stay in business......

Yeah, THAT's what's driving the War on Drugs- Prison Contractors! Of course that begs the question of why prostitution is still illegal since the contractors could make even MORE money building bordellos.

to be honest i would prefer to see it decriminalized to the point where it's legal to grow a few plants yourself and it's legal to possess up to an ounce at a time or so. i feel like if it were completely legalized the tobacco companies would step in and they would put all kinds of nasty shit in with the weed.

10 pages, lots of opinions, 0 scientific reports posted. Great thread!

Btw, there are several studies concerning about sex, in every form. You just have to think how many ways it affects people, in physical and mental ways.

Oh, I'm sorry... I thought this thread started out by asking FOR opinions... Oh, yeah... it did!
What scientific report would show what affect legalization would have on American society? There may be projections, extrapolations, models- but those boil down to (gasp!) scientific opinion!
I have no idea what studies concerning sex have to do with the subject... and even then, after all the research and studyon sex there is a wide variance of OPINION on what the data can be interpreted to mean.

Do you meet up drunk at work after a night in the city?? Or do you drink at work?... well maybye someone does, but i certantly dont, and i guess most people dont, so why should a Judge, a Lawyer, a Surgeon or an Engeneer come at work stoned or smoke weed at their work???

it shoud def be legalized

the only reason it was made illegal in the first place was so that hemp farmers wouldn't mess with the tobacco farmers profits

My point was that requiring items to be proven as worthy of being legal is an invalid proposition. Legalized weed would not lead to as much social cost as illegal weed does and would actually be beneficial to the government from an income perspective due to expected marijuana taxes, collection of income taxes, sales tax, etc.

There are few studies of marijuana under controlled circumstances such as happens with all other drugs as the government does not allow the research. Most studies are from illegal usage and are invalid when attempting to convert those to legal, regulated usage. Any study of alcohol during Prohibition in the US did not really study the effects of alcohol itself, but the "bathtub gin" and criminal aspects of it. Most of that disappeared with the repeal of Prohibition.

Here are a few Scientific studies of Marijuana:
