What's the deal with optional plugins for Firefox. If I already have Quicktime, Acrobat, Flash, etc, do I need to download new plugins just because I've switched to Firefox? It looks like the links on their homepage are for the full install of those apps, which I shouldn't need. Does the plugin mean that it'll add that app to my Firefox toolbar? Is that the only reason why I should download these plugins? Someone help a Firefox noob. Thanks.

No, you don't need to replace all of those apps. But Firefox has many extentions for a lot of different things.a lot of them are really nice. And yes, they will be added to your toolbar. Where it says "tools".

Whenever I download some of those plugins (java for games usually) my browser won't open. It says I need a password??

I have to do a system restore to fix it. It didn't help me from doing it three times though :p Now I just use IE for chess and other games, as before Firefox.

some stuff indeed doesn't work great with Firefox. like the site my bank uses...
most things work great tho.
gasolin, got a site for me where you get those problems? I might be able to replicate them and hand you the solution

btw, I've noticed that updating and installing new plugins, can be done best directly on the site, instead of the update button. but that could also be cus I have 3 or 4 different versions running entangled...

tip: update for FireFox? de-install the old, install the new.
