The guy definitely could not have gotten a grenade in there. Security would have had the area secured far before the Pres. got there. I think the guy would have preferred to throw a grenade at him, but all he could get through security was his shoes, and he thought "fuck it. It's the best I can do."

I'm impressed by W's moves. He's old, but he's not slow yet.

And I just have to say- I'm definitely not a fan W as a President, but this was just ridiculous. Funny. But ridiculous.

He wasn't really trying to harm the president, just insult him. In Arab culture the sole of the shoe is meant to be deeply offensive - showing it to someone suggests that they are beneath them. When Saddam's statue was pulled down in 2003, the locals threw shoes at it. This journalist shouted "This is from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq!" with the second shoe. It was a protest.
