Free virus protection programs: worth the risk versus the ones you pay for?

You know, after griping that no one was answering your question, it might be nice to come in here and let someone know if their suggestions helped. Especially since I see you have been on a few times since I posted.

@ RFW...you get no respect!!

i took sigmer's advice & dumped avast & hooked up with superantispyware a year & a half ago. been working great for me & doesn't slow down my computer like avast did.

You do realize that SuperAntiSpyware does not check for viruses so you are only protected from spyware.

yeah, i know that. microsoft security essentials. but it's never found any viruses on me & i only run it once in a while. i don't go anywhere but here & my work sites. i'm a safe internet driver.
