Ya... walking into that cage.... knowing you know how to chop wood in half, and can beat the fuck out of a 200 lb bag of god knows what... doesnt hold much weight compared to a guy that grew up boxing kangaroos, wresting gorillas, playing slap-jack with cobras, hide-and-go-seek with g[blacklisted], leap frog with seagulls, and swimming with blue whales. These fuckers are all masters in at least a dozen different arts. Hell, Im pretty fuckin good at Madden 2005, but I wouldnt step in the cage with most of those guys!

check this out.... i went to a friend of the familys house today for her b-day and her daughter is like 8 years old and does some karate classes. well the lady shows me this autographed photo of her kid with some guy. she says "yea this guy was there to show the kids a few tricks i guess he is a fighter or something" and i looked at the photo and it was ROYCE GRACIE. he was in my town and i had no clue about it until she tells me about it three days later. the best fighter (in my opinion) goes to teach 8 year olds some brazilian ju jitsu?? i was sooo mad that i did not know about this. her 8 year old daugther has no clue that she is meeting somebody of great significance and she only thinks hes just some cool karate guy. just thought i would share that after seeing this thread~

Matt Hughes. He's from Hillsdale IL, about 40 miles from where I grew up. Met him in the Davenport IA Hooters in 2002. He definately got his ass beat by GSP, and got lucky with the 2nd Rd. bell vs. Penn, but he also held the title for 4 years! Nobody else has done that. GSP will not hold it that long, he will get beat by Diego Sanchez!

Not a fan of Hughes, don't like the idea of "ground and pound" but I give him respect for doing what he has done.

GSP, Penn, Sudo, and the Gracies are more my style.

Hes also not too bad at submission holds. Perhaps not the best, but fairly decent. There are several others I love to watch, but forget there names at the time. I keep thinking one of the names is Tequilla, but Im thinkin Im gettin that name from another aspect of my evening...

Yeah, he's a good fighter. But I like to see more technical bouts.

on some level of competition you just cant go without any steroids and stuff like that, those guys train 4 times a day..most of the steroids they take are helping them to recover muscles, strenghten joints and etc..i bet you saw The Smashing Machine with Mark Kerr, he admitted that he was addicted to painkillers which almost got him killed, but as i said you cant go pro without any pharmacy

Oh man, I could talk about this for hours, there are so many great fighters in MMA that it's almost impossible have a favourite but for me, Chuck Liddell, Remy Bonjasky, Peter Oertz, Stefan Leko, Randy Couture, Oleg Taktarov, Hoyce Gracie and undoubtedly one of the hardest men alive Igor Vovchanchyn are my humble submission for some of the greatest fighters there have ever been. I also really like the look of the up and coming Brandon Vera, he's definitely one to watch for the future.

give me a break. Nobody needs steroids. If you can't get by without them then that means you should cut back your workout. We've had sports for as long as recorded history and its only in the last century that anyone "needed" steroids, so quit with the bullshit. Is anyone really impressed by drug enhanced performance? pathetic

Gotta go agree with FANNYBOY.... the greats such as Joyce and Couture....

But currently... Liddell of course.... I think a rematch is needed with Hughes vs. GSP, with Hughes winning. The upcoming Liddell vs. Ortiz is gonna be REAL interesting as well!

ALSO, I have to say ... one to watch is Michael Bisping from England.... if he can develop his ground skills... he is gonna go pretty far!

I agree Pride is better than UFC, as far as good fighters go. But st pierre might as well have raped hughes in the middle of the octagon...would've been a better show. Hughes, IMO, is over hyped and too many people think hes some kind of god. same goes for wanderlei. it was a miracle hughes beat penn the second time, and anyone who knows anything saw pierre winning their fight before it happened. Hughes should move up in weight or retire...its enough already. roar.
[/reply]

you're absolutely right. hughes is completely overrated and if you saw his fight with newton you see that he shouldn't have won that fight either. people constantly suck his dick callhimg him "so strong" because he is compared to most of the UFCers (not fighters) in the UFC wh do 100 reps of extremely low weights to prepare for fighting a person. if you're truly so good and strong a fighter then you should try moving up in classes. If you've defended your title enough times try changing classes and go for a challenge (which is why coutour was awesome). What i like about what's happening in the UFC now is that you're going to start seeing real skilled, technical martial artists mop the floors with some of these militich pussies. IE, anderson silva COMPLETELY HUMILIATING that idiot leben and overrated franklin and St. pierre doing the same to matt hughes. Just wait for the horrible fighting, steroid taking, lumbering ox silvia to fight brandon vera. Ok, i'm done ranting.

every body has its limits and sometimes the only way to break them is using the steroids...im not saying its right, but as you said in 21st century everybody wants to go faster, stronger and bigger..so we cant expect clean sportsmanship anymore

you are from usa, so just look at your nlf, nba players...when american dream team went to play at the olympics they made a condition that they wont be tested for steroids...even the fat guys from baseball league use juice..so if you arent impressed by drug enhanced performance you dont need the sports channels in your cable tv
