i downloaded some videos from youtube. and i want to convert them to avi or mpeg or any other format. i have downloaded several converters from google, but they either didnt work, or norton said they were viruses. so i was hoping someone could recomend a program for converting the flash video files. at the moment all i can play them in is VLC and i want to put them on my ipod or cd to send to a friend.

http://keepvid.com/

copy the url of the video you want, paste it into the first box on the website above, select youtube from the drop down list. click download and it will give you a direct link. save it, watch it with VLC. too easy.

Thanks mate. Just tried it, and it works great

Good luck on your conversion search. I did a google search for converters the other night after I downloaded a couple of flash files that had been posted here, but all I found were one's that had to be paid for.

I dont know if you will read this again daggett but i found out why i couldnt convert the youtube videos. when you downloaded them with the website i gave you, it doesnt give them a file extention, so when you go to load it into the converter program it says there is no data found, so if you add the .flv flash extention to the end you pretty much should be able to convert them with any converter i tried with main concept converter and it worked like a charm. so problem fixed.

also i tried to total video converter but because its only a trial it leaves a huge watermark in the top left hand corner, but it still converts them.

I am unable to access keepvid.com. Has it been shutdown or just down for service? Are there any other ways to save Flash files?

Obviously I have not setup much on here yet, but I may be able to help. There's a program named Super C that will convert flv files to just about anything u want. It is free and has free updates. A little cumbersome to use first time, but easy after that. Give it a try if u want to view in another format then flv!
