did you disconect the cable from the computer or data port and wait 30 secs and re boot? or delete your temp file. sounds like it is either a connection or a memery issue. since two sites load quick i would go with memory.
start with disconect internet and then clean up all your internet stuff, cookies temp files, see if that helps. if not check and see if you need to run defrag.

1. Restart your cable/dsl modem.
2. As Jasper says, purge all of your temp/cache files for your browser.
3. If it is still slow, google speed test, and check your current speed/bandwidth. Your ISP may simply be sucking right now.

new thought too, if you have wireless someone may be jacking it, not sure if that would slow you down or not, but thought i would mention it.

Another likely culprit...IE7.....it is poo....if you have it get rid of it. I have sworn by Firefox for the last three years.

First up, How long has the problem been going on and what type of Internet/Broadband + speed do you have? And are you the only one (pc) on your lan or are other computers sharing it? If so, go turn them off before doing any of the below, and see if you still have the problem.

1. What is your task manager CPU percentage running at when you are loading pages or opening IE/Firefox?
2. Regardles, download SpyBot Search & Destroy. Install it, update the files, immunize and then run a scan and fix whatever it finds. Virus scanners don't find all adware, spyware and malware.
3. Do you have a router or modem? Are you on wired or wi-fi? If wi-fi, have you secured it with a passkey? You could be being jacked.
4. If you have a router, log into the admin page. One of the pages will display the upstream and downstream speeds that it is receiving. If these don't look like the speeds you signed up for then there's going to be a problem either in your router, noise/interference on the line to the exchange or there is a problem/work going on at the exchange. One way to clear interference is (as mentioned above) turn off your router and unplug it from your computer and the phone connection (very important part) leave this for 30 secs (or 2 minutes to be sure). Reconnect and restart after clearing your temp int files and running MS Disk Cleanup (don't check the Backup files option).
5. Are you running any P2P applications (Bittorrents, etc) or FTP servers. These will impact your speeds MASSIVELY if not configured correctly and will generally have a noticeable impact unless you have a broadband line with a 512kb/s upload or greater.
6. Should've put at the beginning but can't be bothered renumbering, make sure you've gone to the microsoft page to ensure you've got all the latest security updates (at the least). It's concerning that you say you've run several virus scans from Mcafee AND AVG... just asking, but you DO have one of them actually installed and up to date, right? You're not just running their web based scan are you? (Please don't shoot me for asking, I'm not trying to be faecetious. I work in IT and I'm constantly amazed how often this case can be found)

If none of the above help or point in the right direction, then grab a screenshot of your Taks Manager process window and post it here. Something might be apparent immediately. Else we move on to something like HijackThis.

Hope something in the above helps.

OK....This is what i do for a living
Please run adaware-SE, it is from Lavasoft, then run spybot Search and destroy, then spy sweeper. Report back to me how many problems and what kind. Expect to see trojan.zlob, let me know either way.

The cable and storm should have nothing to do with anything. As long as you still have cable TV, your internet should work fine.

I dont think your problem is viruses, it is spyware. Or something AV programs cant pickup, like a rootkit fun fun

Either way, we'll get you taken care of.

Possibly, but have been running it now for about 2 months and haven't had any problems. It's admittedly not as streamlined and has a lot more overhead than Firefox but once you start using the tabbing that they've *cough* cloned *cloned* from Firefox the memory usage is much better than it used to be running multiple windows. That said, - why do I always feel the need to qualify when talking about an MS product - it still doesn't release the used resource from the tabs until you close the parent window. A large oversite IMO.

You're onto something to test though. If he runs the same sites through Firefox and doesn't have the same problems with playback/dlspeed/timeout then it's ...almost (with all else being equal)... certainly down to a conflict with IE or maybe even Macromedia Flash version.

Can you switch to the networking tab of task manager, wait for about 10 secs and then screenshot that one too please. Should indicate active traffic if you are otherwise idle.

Right. You've definitely got spyware/adware. ADSSER~1.exe (do a google lookup) is related to a lot of spyware links. However, that's jsut the nice easy one I saw.

Follow the instructions of IKZ in dling and running all three of those apps and then if problem persists HijackThis and post the log.

^^^YES^^^
But make sure you dont do anything with HiJack This except scan and save a log file. Do not click on any of the boxes or try to fix them---you can wipe windows system files and waste the OS. Just an FYI.

Bender,
Still looking at your TM screen. It would appear that you are running two Virus Scanners at the moment. Get rid of one. They can cause conflicts on system resources and also will just be making your system chug more.
