I'm talking about sites like lumosity.com and a few others out there. Does anyone here subscribe to such a site, and what do you think of it? Which one do you use? Did you see or feel any improvement?
I heard a few neuroscientists on some science show on NPR arguing about the value of these sites. One guy said human intelligence can't be improved, that by age 7 you've pretty much got what you've got for life, adjusted, of course, throughout your life by age. This has been the conventional wisdom for a long time.
Then they had on another neuroscientist who said no; intelligence, memory and reasoning skills can clearly be improved with excercises and practice. Then the brain training site guy said his site and the fact that it's subscribers need constantly harder and more evolved exercises as they progress proves it. Well, I'd rather give humanity the benefit of the doubt and throw in with the latter of two guys. And if he's wrong, so what? It can't hurt to try.
