Well, I've read ALL THREE books, in about 10 days. As a heterosexual male, I was curious as why nearly every female I know is reading this, and now I know.
Ive not read in AGES, and I wanted to hate it but didn't. Ive read some erotic fiction online, nothing much, just on certain porn forums ive frequented over the years, and they always seem to be written from the male POV, probably because it's written by males, for males. This, is written by a female, from a female perspective, which is something I've not really come across. Also the subject matter, BDSM, is something I'm not really into, so even if I'd of seen something like this, I'd probably not even read it.
Aside from the p!sspoor characterisation, repetitive lines, dull and repetitive descriptions, it did do one thing; captivate me, it just draws you in and I couldn't put the fucker down! There are times you think it's been written by a juvenile, and others where it's rather eloquent, clever, arousing and makes you smile. The sexual scenes are very descriptive, and I found rather interesting, as they were, again, written from a female perspective, obviously.
There are bad points, like the amount of times she writes repetitive stuff is a bit annoying, some examples like 'Jeez' appears over 80 times in the first book alone. 'cocks his head to one side', 17 times, and 'presses his mouth into a hard line' 14 times, just for some examples.
At the end, the author interestingly rewrites one of the first chapters, from the male perspective, which I thought was a fantastic idea. I would think that as a film is in the offing, but some way away, she may release them again, but from a different perspective. Personally, I think it'd sell well, and, I'm afraid to say, I'll be buying it.
As for the film, btw, they will HAVE to tone it down. The amount of sex alone says that. As for the sex acts themselves, it IS hardcore porn, so itl be interesting to see what they do.
Overall, I'd describe it as car crash reading, you know you shouldn't look, but have to.....
