in september i leave for army basic training so any advice on that would be great

Yeah. Best advice you are going to get: do what you are told and say, "Sir" a lot. Maybe followed by, "Yes, Sir". Last piece of truly useful advice: the dumber the thing is you are told to do...the faster you better do it.
And all that being said, thank you, sincerely, for your service and willingness to commit yourself to something greater.

There's not really any advice to give anyone for basic training. You will be told exactly what to do and all you have to do is do what you're told.
You're going to get yelled at, you're going to get smoked, just don't take it personally. You are a private and can't do anything right anyway.
