Hey, new Canadian girl who has joined WBW! Saw the site and decided to at least join up and see what's up! I tried to upload an avatar and it wouldn't let me. It says it is the wrong file type (jpeg), any advice?

Welcome aboard. It's not saying jpeg is the wrong file type is it?
That's what it's supposed to be so whatever you're trying to upload is probably a different file type.
I use an image converter called pixillion.
