I found pics of my Deville before the Simcon blew off, now wishing I took a few more pics... The glue by the aftermarket company is seen now on the bare roof where it was applied. There were rivets holding the Simcon top and sail panels that were ripped out, it now tends to leak rain water through them. For a car that was Cadillac's entry model and not all that popular in 1985 to 88, as all the large GM cars were downsized those years, you'll recall if you live Stateside... Ford kept at making large luxury cars when GM stopped. Sadly, the pre mid 80s cars were already downsized and it wasn't really done very poorly, they needed to worry more about drivetrains and economy rather. That being stated, another interesting factoid is the 1985 Deville, which bore the Eldorado's new 4.1 HT4100 V8, or "High Technology" FWD engine was the world's first TransVerse V8 and I read that in a book at the library and hadn't heard it before, oddly.
In 1988, the engine was vastly improved as a 4.5 liter that upped the needed horsepower as the 4.1 was just too small, in the Eldorado, a heavy luxury car, this was a major downside, many people are fans of those 79 to 85 Eldos, me as well.
Here's the custom makeover image I found online, I challenge MTV to Pimp My Ride! Of course I don't live anywhere close to where they require you to be, but just the same. I need an auto makeover!

...And here's my Deville in a shot from up at our cabin, central MN, last year. I think this is just prior to the roof coming off as I was driving south to the Twin Cities and was only cruising along at 60Mph or so! It's so astounding that it happened and you don't see it commonly...funny enough, the company that did the work left their calling card under the trunk with a production sticker note!

Guess us Europeans have to do it with a few different car types. I have however owned a few in my 6 years of having a license. Most cars I owned for only a short while but the car I drive now I've had for almost two years now.
Started of in : Mazda 323 (1983), then a Volkswagen Golf 3 (1992), a BMW 525I (1995) which was good fun but too expencuve for me at the time (a student), 2 x Subaru Legacy of which the first one was only with me for abour two weeks. I blew up the engine doing something stupid on a roundabout, oops. I was actually on my way to an appointment and just my luck the engine blew right on the roundabout in front of the subaru dealership. So traded it in for an older model paid too much but was on my way and arrived on time. Abyway after that I owned a Fiat Marea weekend (do not buy this car it sucks) but this burned to the ground thanks to an angry person living in the same flat. (I also had over 50liters of fuel in two jerrycans in the back which helped) After the fiat I bought an Opel Vectra (ex police and souped up a bit) which was fast and fun. After the opel I bought the car I have now which is a Volvo S40. Fine car but nothing special. Because of where I work I occasionaly get to drive a selection of cars owned by my two bosses (including BMW Z3 convertable and coupe, BMW 740I, Porsche 928, Mercedes 450 SEL and a couple more fun thing.) And of course I have a few Motorcycles. All in all a lot of history for someone who is only 24. Currently making a bit more money and thinking of buying a (used) Jaguar XKR. This should make me forget my volvo quickly!!!
D*mn turned out to be a long story, and I don't thing most viewers here a the reading type but more of a look at the pictures crowd.
