Volvo, weird squealing sound

I own a 1983 Volvo DL. Recently, whenever I start my car up and it warms up, there is a strange whistling sound coming from somewhere under the hood. I've had a difficult time pinpointing where its coming from since it is so loud. When I push down on the accelerator though, the sound dies down until it is completely gone, whether I'm in neutral or in gear. As soon as I let up from the gas, it slowly comes back. The car hasn't felt any different since this problem started occuring. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've sprayed WD-40 on all my belts but yet it continues to make the squealing sound.

my advice is it is time to buy a different car, volvo's are not cool.

It sounds like you have a vaccuum leak. check for small hoses connecting to the carb and intake. one or more have dry rot and now a hole....


or could just be a belt. :P

finally a good responce and dont put Coke on your belts you want a lube if they squeal but not wd 40 use HHS 2000 its a Zep product.but the way it sounds you have a vacume leak I

Post this on "swedespeed" but aounds like vacuum leak from throttle body for carb or EFI.

Have you tried tightening the belts?

my opinion also, the belts...

I sprayed my fuel injectors and the noise temporarily stops and then comes back.

My old honda did that. The belt was loose and it was making a squeeling noise when id crank er up i never got the squeeling taken care of because of my starter going bad and my old car going DOA on me :\
