What do you think is the best forced induction method? I say turbo. Runs off exhaust gas, so you don't use power to make power. Easy to build on too. Bigger turbo/injectors=MORE POWER!!

depends on what your using...every kid will tell you superchargers suck but dont have a clue of what there talking about

Depends on what your after too... ask yourself this? if turbo chargers are the bee's knees why do top fuelers use superchargers?

Although top fuelers still use the antiquated system of the roots blower, it's all to do with crunching the number to get the desired result.

The Roots blower is by far one of the most inefficient chargers in relation to fuel usage you can get; but the design is simple, and has teh capability of pumping massive amounts of air through the system to feed those bahemmoth engines they use. Big volume=Big power, when the cost of fuel is the least of your worries and you want reliable power you still can't go past a root!

Next down the line in the family is underboonet superchargers, a common name that springs to mind is the powerdyne, thought they all follow a similar principal. Running off the crank gives you instant power, but it saps anywhere from 5-20% of what the engine was orinially making. Superchargers are also to install and easier on the pocket with less mods involved. (though with any car mod there is always the option of going nuts to get everything "working in harmony". Note too that their is less underbody temps with a supercharger than with a turbo as the hot exhausts are expelled straight away. One downfall to the current generation of these superchargers is that in thier current guise there are a few limiting factors in pumping out the amount of PSI that large turbos due. Many a crank has been snapped due to the strain on it, or charger gone through a wheel well caused my the massive amount of instant torque.

Now turbos, yes they do need to spool up, can cost a bit to get working well with the engine, and can get high temps... note make sure your exhaust manifold is properly matched because temps in the engine bay can really sky rocket under hard driving and melt things. As they are a fairly free spinning system, they are easier on the engine than a supercharger in that respect.

After having driven vehicles under both guises, for street driving there is nothing quite like watching that tacho climmmmbbb.... then bang, sucked into your seat as you launch into that sweet sympohny that is turbo spool. The challenge around the track to keep the engine singing as you go through the gears adds to the excitment; snapping third as you hit the back straight.... OK getting a bit off topic. But if your in it for the street light drags and the 400m straight on the weekends, the supercharger is for you! Right off the line getting your car to squat on it's back wheels, trying to see over your bonnet which is kinda on an angle due to the torque twist... that's another blast all on it's own!
So my personal opnion, as I used to do a lot more street than drag I'd go the turbo. Though I'm out of the game now, suffice to say "I've been pussy whipped", my current ride is a bit of a snail though it does let me explore the great outdoors where most vehicles can't... to it's credit at least, it does run a turbo.

every power plant in every car is diffrent.. i drag imports and a lot of people are all about turbos.. but u ahve to remember if u have a big tubro, ull need something that will act as a buffer to get u that much needed exhaust to get ur turbo to spool and kik,, in the event of some motors others us the super to get that power right when the hit the gas.. both have the lag but at dirrent ends.. high end super.. low end turbo.. i much prefer the turbos cause there more fun and makes the v8 guys scratch there heads.. lol.. but either one is ok with me.. both are fun..

I've been thinking seriously about putting a turbocharger/supercharger on my truck.

It's really opinion. They do each perform better than the other in specific applications. Generally you feel little to no lag with a supercharger... but the turbo has a greater surge of power... like bursts... supercharger you have a consatnt flow.

I prefer superchargers.

well everyone has an opinion but when you get straight down to the honest truth although you can get massive power from turbos and superchargers on small engines you have to keep in mind that you never get something for nothing for every high end mod. there is a high end cost the wilder the setup the less perdictable and reliable it becomes so as the story goes no matter how much you can do with a small engine there is no replacement for displacement ((( when is the last time you saw a top fuel 5 second 4 cyl. ))) plus on to my favorite forced induction the blower reliable power and the belt whine of the 3 to 4 inch wide belt will make even the most enthusiastic turbo guy drool so if you want to turn heads and have fun its my choice to go big and go blown hints my screen name glastron460 yes i do build hot motors but with how strict the laws are getting in my area on cars i put them in boats so the can really cut loose all the time <<<< there is that exception of the 68 chevy truck with the 454 but thats another story>>>>>>

perhaps you guys can help, i wanted to stick to all american muscle, old school. i have a 94 mustang gt i'm in the process of building up, but the all american muscle is getting a bit pricey. what would you guys recomend for my mustang, turbo or supercharge. it's getting harder to compete these little 4 cyclenders cranking out almost 500 horses with nearly half the weight?

In my opinion,....buy a foxbody, find a good 302, bore it, stroke it, get some good heads, good rear gear and a shot of nitrous. But I'm really a Chevy guy so go buy a Nova or something.

ugh i wouldnt bore a 5.0 and sacrifice some reliability...but stroking it, adding a good set of heads and cams, messing around with the diff gears, and a proper turbo/blower if you have the money will make your pony untouchable

why not both?.......Vw are doing it..

but I would go with supercharger no lag simple.....

Fox bodies are hard to beat for traction and they are fairly light. If you put very much boost on a stock ford block you will split it in half. same goes for a big nitrous hit. If you want big power get an aftermarket block.
347 ci sbf is a nasty little motor, but doesnt live too long due to excessive rod angle. But this isnt really about economics.

302s will sustain quite a bit of power if built properly...there are tons of 8-9 (or less) second 302s out there proving this

This is true, but I have 650 hp, mid-9 second stock blocked 347 blow the block in half. They are notorious for the webbing cracking in the block. May run forever, may pop on first pass. Big gamble if your dealing with a 8 or 9 second motor. Spend the money up front and save yourself the headache

1.8L I4 SUPERCHARGED AND TURBOCHARGED dual intercooled, air from the turbo goes into the 1st intercooler and then into the supercharger then agina into the 2nd intrecooler
480BHP

PLUS NO TURBO LAG
