Thoughts on the Audi A8

So i am very close to buying a 2004 Audi A8. I did a lot of research on the car and i spent alot of time researching this particular car and it has been taken care of extremely well and maintained to the fullest. It is a 2004 but the outside has been modified to look like an s8 with the whole front end, side skirts, and rear bumper (definitely taking off the s8 badge). There are no engine modifications which i consider a good thing because if something was to go wrong it would cost an arm and a leg. It has a completely clean carfax report. I am paying 16000 for the car but the only problem is that it has 100000 miles on the engine. Thoughts from anybody that has an opinion on what to look out for or whether its a good idea to buy it overall??

Let me tell you that it doesn't matter what kinds of mods were done to it. If something goes on a car (and on a car with 100k miles, something eventually will) it's going to cost you an arm and a leg anyway, unless you can either do the work yourself or have a very cheap mechanic.

I have an A6 and if it weren't for my mechanic, who happens to be a really chill guy, I would have spent a shitton of money keeping her running the last 4 years.

That being said, it's an awesome car, and while the A8s are a little too grandpa-ish for me, the're still sweet cars. Although, I must say, if you're going to mod the exterior like that you've almost got to get some tint on those windows.

Looks really nice. As a former audi owner, my first recomendation would be to check out wither audiworld or audizine, both audi websites with good forums, I was a member for audiworld for years, but i'm not sure what the members are like at either anymore. They were always helpful though, so I'd search through the forums to see if they already have a buying guide for that car.

For example, I know they had one for the older A8's and a list of things to check of have a mechanic check that were audi specific as well as the right questions to ask.

Of the top of my head, you're looking at a 2,000 dollar job (depending where you are) to replace the timing belt. It usually goes at about 120k, but you DO NOT want to find out what happens when if it fails while you're driving. $$$$$ Its a lengthy process to replace that requires removing the bumper, water pump and a few other goodies, you usually replace the water pump while your in there (included in the 2k I said) That being said, that may not apply to your A8.

Sorry for the long post, I haven't posted in a very long time, but was extremely jealous of your find, good luck with it and I hope it works out well.

I'm hoping for a '06 rs4 in a a few years haha
