all i know that that wankel (rotary) engine will blow, once it spins its self off its spindel, and warps itself into a mangled mess. and from there on in you will have repair bills larger than your wildest dreams my friend (about$5000 for a new rotary engine) If you are thinking of buying an RX7, then DONT, because you will be regretting the decision until the day you die! one friend of mine had one, and it was a nightmare. can you believe it was $1500 for a new catalatic converter!?!?! another had one, which was an automatic (how gay can you get?) and the tranny blew right away, so he junked it. another friend had a nice one (a 1991 turbo) and the thing was a howitzer. i mean the thing totally ripped. those RX's feed off of revs and the faster you get that rotary engine spinning, the more you start hauling ass. but his engine blew... and who has $5000 to replace the engine? so do not ever buy one of those pieces of crap. just watch the jesse james from west coast choppers video of the rx7. theres nothing better that seing that piece of junk blown to crap!

and about the horsepower, who fucking cares!... buy a mustang instead.

lol, a well built rx7 will eat a mustang alive, my best friend just bought one and its fucking insane, but im not going to get into a car argument, different strokes for different folks, i hate fords, you dont, we have our own opinions, neither is "right"

255hp is about right. It doesn't take much to build it up though. Just ad race chip and get about 20 more.

I have been working on Rotary motors for the past 10 years or so as a past time and for time working at a mechanics shop while I was on break from uni.

For a 1.2L motor to be able produce enough power to blow off most V8's takes some clever engineering. The rotary motor runs at about 2.5 - 3 times the temperature of a piston engine equivalent. Because of this the oil in a rotary motor needs special attention. The oil must be changed much more regularly than a normal motor. It is very easy for someone to drive a rotary hard and then have engine bearing problems due to a lack care for the state of the motor. The other problem arises when the car is fitted with an oil cooled turbo. Due to the even higher temp that a turbo motor operates at, turbo cars that are driven hard should be fitted with a turbo timer that keeps the oil circulating while the engine cools off. Rotaries are all fitted with oil coolers (this is extremely uncommon in production cars) which goes to show that Mazda are also well aware of the oil problems these cars have.

I owned an RX-3 for four years and only changed the motor once from the standard old 10A
motor to a fuel injected 13B, I only did this because I got a good deal on the motor and added about 80hp. I changed the oil about once a month (and after driving hard) and the filter every other month and never had a problem.

lmao rx-7 dude? try the new one and supe it up lmao it wont kill a modifyed eclispe with the same engine in it lol trust me it is fast but the suped up eclispe with a rotory in it will blow anything away but the old 4 bangs are lovely had a 95 eclispe RS With a N/A Setup Pushing 400-500hp outta a 4cyl lol

anyone wanna throw their two cents in on a twin turbo 3000GT? i worked as a valet for a year and drove a lot of different cars. i drove a 3000GT and left it in first and gunned it. it was one of the few times that ive actually been scared in a car. It accelerated faster than any other street car i drove. and since i race cars that do about 100 on a 3/8 mile circle track, i think that says something. the cars we race are 355 C.I. chevys that make about 450-475 HP with stock vortec heads. rx7's may be nice, but i think the 3000GT will rip it up.

The VR4 3000GT isnt that great. They are super heavy and only do good off the line cause its AWD! I have never raced one from a dead stop but I did catch one going down the hwy one day and just embarrassed his ass. It was an older guy in his mid 30's maybe. I pulled up next to him and he gave me a eat shit kinda grin. It was a look like "whats that Camaro gonna do". I dropped it down a gear and let him hit it first and just walked by him like he was sitting still. He wouldnt pull back up beside me after that.

i wont knock an rx-7. I friend of mine has a 96? dont quote me on that, rx-7 with twin turbos (sequential). He runs low 12's in the 1/4 mile, thats also in 4500' elevation. get at sea level and we talkin 11's. Its a nice car and it will run with the best of em. I respect it.

What does he have done to it to run 12's? Dont say its stock!

yeah your right about that car there is a video of a 30000GT Vr-4 Twin Turbo Vs a Rx-7 The 30000GT Got off pretty fast off the line not sure who won looked like a photo finish but the 30000GT had the hood lenth ahead of the Rx-7 but a very good race on the street that is

Supra TT's are supposed to be the fasted stock turbo car with 320 (rumored to be underated). Though I was just on a website the opther day saying that a vr-4 is supposed to be at just about the same time (1/4 mile wise) and even 1 or more 1/10 of a sec quicker 0-60 (probably true due to the AWD). I just bring this up because it is one of my dream cars to build one up.
