Paint tricks?

As I'm thinking about things to do to my '92 Calibra, a thought crossed my mind. Since I'm a pretty big fan of good paint jobs, especially pearlescent colours, it would be a good place to start.

Now, please don't judge me too badly from the start, but I also like tribal tattoo markings. And that would be a cool theme to integrate into the paint. Most of you are probably thinking about vinyl tape right now, but in my opinion vinyl belong on turntables, not anywhere else.

Since pearlescent colours have different refraction thresholds, shouldn't there be a way to make refracting patterns? Has anyone done this / seen it done? Do you have pictures? Do you know someone who could do such a paint job?

Any advice is welcome, as long as it's constructive...

I have seen it done.
It's how the do ghost flames on hot rods.

I've seen it done a few times.

One time, when I was into painting, I painted a wooden sword so that it would shift from silver to gold (not like the silver was "gold with light shining on it so it kinda whites it out" but actual silver, and then gold and such) depending on the yaw and cant. Not the same thing but I found it nifty.

It is possible however you have to havea relatively dark pearl colour so that when it is painted in the shade only the colour is shown and not the tribal markings but will show under bright light if you are using black....if you are using say white you may be able to get away with it. What you do is apply the tribal markings on the after the primer coat but before the pearl coats. Try this on a pieces of scrap before you try it on your car!!!! Also with pearl coats the primer has to be all one colour(I know it sounds stupid) otherwise it will show through. A good colour to practice on (if available) whilst not strictly a pearl is Fords Blue Mist which is a light silver blue metallic colour which has transclucent qualities

I would say use different colors as base coats maybe black for the tribal markings and a lighter color for rest and then a dark translucent color over the entire car.
