About a month ago I was driving on the highway and I felt something come off my car which turned out to be somewhere from the muffler. Now when I drive it sounds like my car is riced up because its very loud like an exhaust.

I am thinking of getting a new muffler, just wanted to know if its possible to buy it online somewhere and install it myself instead of going to the Honda dealership or a mechanic. I am trying to save myself a couple bucks.

Well it all depends on what you want and how much you are willing to invest . . . . I myself am driving a 99 honda civic so I can give you a good idea in the market . . .

Did something happen to hit your exhaust while you were driving? Stock exhaust systems should usually last long. Unless rust, or physical damage is a factor.

Mufflers can be had for cheap depending on what you want, ebay has loads of them. For quality ebay still has some to offer, you just have to sift through all of the generic mufflers they have there. You may also me able to find a stock exhaust/axle back for your model civic on ebay for pretty cheap too. If you would like do this job completely on your own you will need to find a muffler with the axle piping already in place as well as the flange. Usually refered to as an axle back muffler/exhaust. With that all you'd have to do is remove two bolts, pull the muffler of the hangers then replace the two bolts.

Anything else and you will most likely have to take it to mechanic or exhaust shop so that they can weld on new piping then bolt it on.

Good luck with your car.
