Mazda3 vs. VW GTI

Might be jumping the gun a bit here, but expecting to land a pretty cushy job soon (I hope, I hope!). As a result, I'm fantasizing about buying my first brand-new car to replace my dinky Cavalier. Doing a bit of research and starting to love the hatchbacks. I keep coming back to the GTI and Mazda3, do any of you have a preference? Why?

Feel free to plug in your favorite car, I might not have come across it yet.

dunno new cars are over rated, lol those BMW hatch backs look sweet dunno anything about them.

if your lookin to hook this new car up..then i would go for the GTI, simply because its way easier to find new parts for it. I have a Mazda 3i, and Im having a hell of a time finding much in the after market category. I love my 3 though, oh and to the guy above me its spelled a-v-a-t-a-r. Ya boob!!! lol j/k

Between the two, I'd get the GTI.

so ... get the GTI!

Mazda3 looks so damn boring. I'd choose VW from those two. BUT, I'd take Opel Astra OPC from all sporty hatchbacks.

golf R32

if you don't mind dealing with an electrical nightmare go with the golf..

More bang for ya buck with the mazda 3 has a nice sporty feel straight from the factory.

mazda has a softer ride and is more cushy than the golf...

both really nice choices though.

If I were searching for a nice compact... hate to say it... but I'd probably go with the civic Si.

Unfortunately they haven't sold opels in the states since the mid 70's.. although I think they are trying to sell opels as Saturns now..

yep... can you imagine the price of maintanence on such an engine...

The Honda would definitely be more reliable.

I love my 3. Easy to mod all the way around, and nobody has one really. Or at least that I've seen. I'll need to post the pics of mine. Happy Hunting.

Well .. if u ask me ... the best hatchback for me would be the Audi A3 !!! looks beautiful .. with an agressive front ... but i also think its over-priced !!

I am going to order an VW 5 GTI in about 2 months, I would love to have the A3, but the price is WAY to high just as you mention for what you get.

Audi just started importing the A3 and marketing it here in the US. I think they are cheaper here than in Europe though.

Neither Honda nor VW doe make the race ...
