So I took my car to a shop to rebuild the transmission and to complete the crappy bodywork. Six months later and many many calls/visits - nothing. I demand my car back. I get it. Shop still has my trans. I take it to new shop. They of course need old one to rebuild. I call all over the u.s. Shops either dont have it or they want $5,000 plus where a rebuild is $1,500.00. Since this began I found three other people in the same position as me.

So Im planning on the utter destruction of this individual. Legal of course. Im gona sue but u dont always get what you want, its a pain in the ass and its expensive.

So im planning on calling the city re his building code violations.
Reporting on his license.
I made a complaint to the better business bureau.
I am gonna write a letter to the attorney general.

I may take out an ad in the paper.
I will troll the net looking for forums to post his crappy busines practices.

What else?? Anyone?

(doh! I shouldve put this in autos - Mod can you move me?)

Put a lein on all of his property. Check your paperwork and see if anything has demonstrated him breaking the contract, if so call the sherrif to help you get your property back. Sue his ever loving butt off. Def talk to the AG of your state.

First and foremost, have you got proof? You're gonna need it. You need proof of when you dropped the transmission and car off. You need proof that he still has yours. I know it sounds dumb, but that could be Joe Blow's tranny sitting in the corner acting as a 400lb door stop.

I would subpoenia his ass. Take him to court. Get yourself a good lawyer and demand re-embursement of time lost, vehicle damages, complete overhaul of transmission and body work. Also, factor in if you rented a vehicle or paid anyone to let you borrow their vehicle.

I would do it the civilized way. Don't be the bigger idiot and try to shoot up his shit or steal his wheels or vandalize his shop. Just play it cool and think clearly and two steps ahead of him.

I've sued once before. Believe me, it's quite the drawn out process. And to be honest, it can take up to a year after the court date and sentence before you receive any compensation.

Agree heartily with SouthPaw, who offers solid advice. Don't go illegal; if caught, you go to jail over some freaking idiot. Class action lawsuit is great idea. Also, check all his licenses, see if he is in compliance, including environmental. Call IRS, which you can do anonymously, report him as suspected tax cheat. Also, state and local tax agencies. Call local newspapers and TV stations, including, if you live in big city, alternative news outlets. Protest on sidewalk outside his place of business, which is perfectly legal as long as you stay off his property. Badmouth him everywhere, careful never to accuse him of a crime. Just tell everyone you know about how you got jobbed by him. Assholes like this understand only one thing -- you're going to cost him a lot of money unless he takes care of you. You have to hit him in wallet. But I urge you to resist the temptation to do stupid illegal shit like damaging his property -- it will come back to you haunt you in the end.
