Anyone here own or have experience with the Landrover freelander? preferably the turbo diesel model..

just wondered if all the bad wrap they get on their reliability was true..
ive read a few reviews (british ones) saying they all had minor problems to fix regularly....but theyd still buy another one just like it if given the chance.

Also, i got a friend who bought one new in 98, and had nothing but problems....he sold it in 2000...and bought another one recently (dunno why) a second hand 98 and has had no issues at all..

i guess im just confused and wondered if people here had much info on it...or maybe knew of sites with more car reviews for me to search for..

help is appreciated.

I read Car and Driver regularly, they have reviewed the Freelander and said that since Ford took over Land Rover the quality has greatly improved, though they said is still had some problems with the elec systems still.

Yeah I know I'll catch some flack, but I've owned 4 Ford veh., 2 cars (98 Escort, 00 Contour) and 3 trucks (97,98,04 F-150)
I only probs I ever had was a broken valvel spring with the Escort. I love my 04 F-150. So the haters can F*** off.

No Ford bought them in 2000, so anything older than an 02 is suspect
My Aunt had a Range Rover back in 91-92 the elec. controlled suspension would freak out at random times and start raising and lowering itself like she had hydraulics, needless to say she did not keep it long
Hope this helps

Yeah it's like he had a fetish for English cars, Land Rover, Jag, and Aston Martin
Course now he has wisely stepped down and let someone else do the explaining of why Ford is struggling
just goes to show that just because your name is on the door doesn't mean you know what you are doing

Dunno about the Freelander, but I have experience with a 2000 Discovery, and while it's probably the best car I've ever driven in poor weather (which is saying something since I've owned a Jeep Wrangler & 2 Grand Cherokees) it's a beast on gas and some of the electrical systems are a bit goofy. Also, repairs seem ridiculously priced, but then, a lot of foreign cars have that issue.

That's my .02, your mileage may vary.
