I buy used, pay cash, and run them till they are no longer dependable for my needs. Sometimes that is 100,000 miles that I put on them before I don't trust them anymore, sometimes less. Since I buy used to begin with, and normally that is between 70,000-110,000 when I get them, it works out to around 200,000 total on the car before I change it out.

I refuse to finance a car unless I just wind up in a pinch and have to. No sense in letting the finanace companies/banks get rich off me for something that loses half its value the minute you drive it off the lot.

1992 Chevy Silverado 3500 4X4, 233674 miles, now also farm truck
1995 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4, 167570 miles, everyday driver and still gets 16.8mpg with a 5.7 under the hood
1986 Pontiac Trans Am, 165712 miles, restoring interior and body

You may laugh bit at that, but instead I put my money into 3 homes (paid for) I own, not cars to throw away.............

SO you are saying your car is worth more then the 3 homes you own?

just a heads up.....228,000 km...isn't that much....i have 228,000 (miles) on my Ford Taurus and have just needed basic shit replaces..struts, brakes, alternator, etc.
