hmmm. i have a saturn '96 SC2 with two 12 inch Eclipse subs. An already made box...i actually don't know much about the subs or amp haha i just bought em off a buddy.
4 12's are gonna be sick!! If you are concerned about trunk space why not just use 2 12" speakers. plenty of bass!! BTW what kind of deck are you using? and what about the speaker set up inside the vehicle?
too much bass and you'll rattle the polymer right off!!! :P
Thats what I plan on tryin get this summer... I already have a nice Apline head unit and Im replacing the stock speakers with alpine 6-9s, 5-1/2s. and tweeters... but this is the bad boy I want in the trunk... Just look at the weight it packs!!! 79lbs!!!! The 12" is in a heavy weight class too at 75lbs....
79 lbs!!! sick I didn't see that!! what kind of car you own?
The only problem i've seen with people doing their own boxes is that they don't take into account for air space. Speakers need exact box sie/air space etc to work at an optimum level.
Secondly, is the amp a mono amp or not. Subs need a mono amp(class D) to support the power they suck.
I have 3 12's in my trunk with a 1500 watt amp. I decided to go with the 1500 cuz it isnt a mono amp.
Lastly are they bridged? Cuz with it, any one of the subs could get all power at once and blow. Thats another usual problem. Many people get too much power going to only one sub.
One more thing, whats the max power to RMS power of the subs? With 3 different subs taking power from a 1200 watt amp, without a bridge, (now, there is a formula for this) but at my guesstimation, each will only get an average of 300 watts RMS. But thats more than enuff for any sub unless its a JLW7 or sumthin.
Good Luck
He is using rocks to measure volume. not to have them in your speaker box.
