I got my car from a dealer in Ohio and when I wanted to register it in NJ I saw that he forgot to put my name in the title. So i need to get a new one from NJ. Do you think DMV is sending the old titles back to the dealerships?

I think they shred the old titles.

Do you mean you purchased the car in Ohio, registered it there, moved to NJ and want to have it re-registered in the state in which you now live ?

Or do you mean that you purchased the car and had it shipped to NJ and it simply has never been transferred. You don't own the car until the title is in your name. Someone has got to be on the title ? Who is it ?

Let me know and I'll see if I can answer it for you. If you bought it from someone in Ohio and he just sent you the title in blank endorsed on the back, he was probably trying to help you avoid double taxation. Some states tax you when you bring a car into a state that has been registered elsewhere. If you title it once, taking deliverey in NJ, you should only pay once but the title will actually transfer in NJ when it is signed by you.
