well i drive a 2002 dodge durango SLT. its in great condition i bought it used almost a year ago .. great car to drive. but recently ive been noticing when stopped at lights and stuff the car starts to kinda of shake slowly.. like very subtly but u can feel it through the steering sometimes therough the seat. and my rpm drops down to a mesely 600-500 revs. im thinking my sparkplugs are misfiring. but i dnt want to go to the dealer and get ripped off for a 50$/hour for original yatayayata if its anything i can take care myself.

I wish it was only $50 an hour here! thats like half price!

it's sound like you need a tune up.... get the haynes book or chilton book.. if you are looking to do it your self otherwise suck it up and pay.. what kind of maintenace do you do on your vehicle?? oil changes? air filter? or do you just add gas and go?

Just a guess from the little bit of info you gave i would say tune up... very least wires and plugs.

I worked as a auto tec. for several years a tune up might do it but in newer cars it is more than just plugs wires ect. you might concider takeing it to a ase certified tech (if your check engine or service engine light is on you will need to run your ecm code it could be your map sensor or mass air flow sensor) also we in the trade have a saying look in the dictionary it is spelled different but the meening is the same DODGE TO AVOID OR STAY AWAY FROM ha ha mecanic joke

i would start eliminating things, change plugs wires oil airfilter and clean the injectors and fuel system. 600-500 RPMs sounds about right though should go up when you put it in park to around 800. i just got done driving my dads 02 sxt durango and thats where it idled, but his shakes and is loud as hell because of the flowmaster exaust system on it. and it doesnt sound like anything is too severe if no engine light is on, but then agian sensors can go bad and not throw a code out there. theres also this stuff i used on my jeep made my lucas called sea foam. i dumped it into a vacume line and let it run for a 10 mins smoked like crazy but it cleaned out the whole engine ( rember to change oil afterwards!) and now it idles smoothly.

well since i bought it from the dodge dealer here (certified preowned vehicle ) i take it for every oil change i get this for 45$ lol its called peace of mind driving inspection (includes = rotation of all 4 tires, inspection of cooling system, all fluid levels, electricla systems, front and rear brakes, exhaust system, and suspension) i do this at every oil change. so im pampering the car and its on warranty still got 19k on the warranty bumper to bumper so pretty much covered.
( btw the filter gets undusted everytime i do this chek too ) and like 3 months ago i used that stuff u put in ur gas to clean ur injectors it was a name brand so it wasnt no cheap shit so i dunno.. i think ill bring it up to the automotice dep at our uni c wat they have to say

BTw mad props for the great feedback

My thoughts exactly.....Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep are all pretty horrible, sorry your havin problems though man,..to me that sounds like the same thing everyone else said, wires/dist. cap/plugs or a bad sensor, but if you got bumper to bumper youre good anyways.

Durangos have a problem with the front tie rods which causes the shaking on the front wheels. Dodge had a problem with fessing up to it but I think there is a recall on that problem now.So you might want to check the recalls.

I have seen this problem before, I believe it is an IAC Motor (Idle air control) it is an air air bypass valve that controls the idle, It usually gets all gunked up from carbon. I typically take it out and clean it with some throttle body cleaner or carb cleaner. I will see if it can find a picture or location.....

I am currently a professional technician. My advice is to take it to the dealer....always......The dealer techs work on your make/ model daily. They have the access to current T.S.B.'s, recalls, and repair procedures. One thing most people do not know is, dealers have scan tools specifically designed for the brand. These scan tools tell soo much more than a generic device such as the red brick. Some of the more seasoned techs in my shop can tell your problem just by the make, model, year, and symptoms.....no diag needed. You will not get that at Jim's muffler and repair... I am not trying to pumping up the dealer, I started my career at a Goodyear repair shop, and the are ok for minor service. The fact is experience can save you money in the long run.
