i have a 3 month old 2002 4.7 SLT Silver Ram, with a couple nice side decals and a bug deflector on the hood (looks sick) obviously it was bought used.....anyways it has an aftermarket computer chip in it to punch out some more milage, anyone know how to identify the chip? and will the chip add more hp when its needed?, i dont really understand chips that much other than they rearrange the fuel mapping and gearing.....also what would i need to smash a hemi?

Well, the computer chip could only be on one place, the computer, Where your computer is, im not sure, Look under the drive side dash and it should be under there or it could be behind the glove box, Do some looking on the net and im sure you could find it and if you wanted to identify it, when you found the computer you would see a chip on there with markings like " Hypertech " Ect or whatever company. The computer chip changes the Fuel / Air Mapping, not the gearing, Now some after market Programmers that you plug into the diagnostic port could change when the truck shifts gears " higher rpm/lower rpm ".
If you wanted to beat a hemi, you would have to do some serious things. You already have the chip, So cold air induction, cat-back exhaust, high flow catalaytic converter, throttle body spacer, Under drive pulleys, Headers, Roller-Rockers, since all dodges already have a roller cam, Eh...Supercharger maybe? Your looking at 1500, to 4000 bucks to smash a hemi. and thats if you do all the work, and not a mechanic.

WORD!

I have a 98 Z71 and Im soon to buy a 03 HD 2500.

I haven't replaced the chip in my truck, but I did stick a Power Programmer on it. You can buy them for all year and makes and models of trucks, but it stores the VIN numbers on the unit and you cannot reuse it for another vehicle without resetting your own vehicle. It sucks but that's the only way.

Anyways, it helped out alot. You can change air/fuel mixtures, shift points, shift firmness and top speed and rev limiter.
You can change spark advancement or retardment.

It's a great little tool. Check it out. I got mine threw Jegs.

I know nothing on chips and like I said, never replaced mine, just stuck a power programmer on it.

Well a intercooler is used for a turbo, and what it basically does it cools down the hot air that goes into a turbo " cooler air = better combustion " But you do not have to use a intercooler if you use a turbo, It is optional. But with a supercharger, a intercooler is not needed at all because a supercharger works off of the exhaust.

And to the fellow that is buying a Hd2500, if your going diesiel look into using bio-diesiel fuel or even make your own. I have made bio-diesiel fuel for my dad, It is made using Vegetable oil ( i got mine from macdonalds for free, i just had to filter all of the crap in it) Methanol and red devil brand lye (becareful with lye its powder and if it gets on your skin it will burn the ever living hell out of you ) and 2 55 gallon drums and a boat paddle and a small 1 hp electric motor and a fan belt.

I made 55 gallons for about 9 dollars and it runs fine, The only thing that you have to do is change out the fuel filter, because the bio-diesiel breaks down all the crud and stuff in your fuel lines/fuel tank. It will make you hungry if you run it, because you will smell french fries the entire time.

okay wes for all those things u listed, i would be running in the 13s with my truck....i was referring to the small block hemi if u thought otherwise..

oh and wes turbos run off the exhaust not superchargers...the point of an intercooler is to cool down the turbo therefore when the air enters it gets even colder and then theres more of it = +hp

Actually, It does not just " cool down " The turbo, The exhaust gas's run threw the Turbo, then the compressed air goes threw the intercooler, and then into the engine.
