Hello Folks:

My 2003 Dodge Stratus is due for inspection this month, and I know for a fact that the brake pads and the rotors need to be replaced? Would it be easy for me to replace them by myself? How much would it cost me? Has anyone else on this forum replaced brake pads and rotors on their vehicles? What are the best instructions to use to perform this task?

I've replaced the brake pads on every vehicle I have owned myself, it's fairly easy and it wont cost very much (cost of the brake pads), that is if you have all the tools needed.

On the other hand, I've never had to replace the rotors on any of my past vehicles so I can't help you there.

However I would highly suggest getting a repair manual for your car, it has saved me a lot of time and money.

it's not that hard to do if you have some knowledge about cars.. they have manuals anywhere you get parts at.. if not, a bookstore or the internet can help..

If you are looking for the cheapest way out have it done by a professional(you may not want to hear that)!

I'm a mechanic with over 35 years experience and I'll tell you that is the cheapest way

Now if you want to learn to do it yourself the right way,it's been said above, get a book! then you will need a torxs bit I think it's a size 50

(It may be a 45). DO NOT just push the caliper pistons back(you risk damage to the anti-lock valves a COSTLY repair),if you are still with me here

I'll be back tomorrow night to answer more

GOOD LUCK !!!!

And----

It's a good book for you !
