I've found a truck that I like with a 6.2 liter diesel in it. Does anybody know about anything about it? Like is it a good reliable engine? Does it good gas mileage It is a 1982 gmc jimmy 6.2L 4x4 AT the mileage reads 92k isk if it is 192k or 292k or just 92k which I doubt. It is in a new mexico truck with a rust free frame, hard to find in Wisconsin cause of the snow and the salt they use to melt the ice. Anybody know anything about the engines or trucks in general?

6.2 diesel? Jesus fucking Christ. You should find the ecologist inside you and get something *less* polluting. I suggest Audi's, Honda's and Toyota's diesel engines.

I've learned from other sources that the diesel engine ghostryder4u269 was talking about is the Oldsmobile 350 that was turned into a diesel the GMC ones are actually meant to be diesels.

Had one about the same year. They have head gasket problems but are easy to rebuild if they die. I got 22mpg on the highway, if you plan to tow make sure you get 4:10 gears.

Never mind polluting or shit like that...if you cared about that, you'd use a bus. However...diesels are great engines for mileage....that being said, the larger the engine, as with gas, the worse the mileage....turning diesel engines off negates their mileage, plus, unless your actally hauling something, you really don't need a diesel.

Well were i'm from the only type of buses there is, is School Buses and i'm not in school anymore so i don't feel as tho i should drive or ride in one. I also have a 4 cylinder ford escort for mileage and as said before this will be a toy not driven everyday and most likely not even once a week. So please stop giving me shit about polluting and such a diesel is more gas efficient then most 350 and 454s thank you

yeah i think that was the modified 454 gasoline engine someone already mentioned ...and although some of them ended up ok ..most were not ..hence the engine is not in existance anymore.

I am assuming you are looking for diesel because of torque or maybe even to use bio-diesel..but am afraid you will pay a hefty premium for any truck with a good diesel. Generally speaking ...at least new ..diesels command a 2-6k premium over their largest gasoline counterparts ...but they do tend to last much longer.

With that said ..the maintenance is much higher as well. That truck you mentioned probably takes 10-15 gts of motor oil every 2-3k miles. They also are a pain in the fucking ass in the COLD ASS WINTERS ... such as plugging them into an outlet so the fuel doesn't gel up ... glow plugs burning up ..because most people don't understand the physics of a diesel engine.

Anyway ... im sure you will find plenty of literature about diesel engines around the net ... just remember they are not like gasoline in any remote way.

Lastly, diesel engines are much more efficient than gasoline ones ... at least modern diesels are. If you are buying it for a "green" experiment ... i think the one you mentioned is probably a perfect start. With a little modification .. you should be able to run french fry oil in that fucker haha.

I'd suggest BMW 3-liter straight 6 turbo diesel found in 130D, 330D, 530D, X3 3.0D and X5 3.0D.

My BMW 530D is the fastest, biggest and most fuel economical car I've had (weighs nearly two tons, 0-100 in 7.8s/8.0s and combined fuel consumption 8.2/8.3 L/100km, manual/grannymatic, mine is granny-version).
But I've heard the newer 530D needs a new turbo every 150Mm...

On the other hand, I've heard that in the USA, diesel fuel costs more than petrol, which makes a diesel engine less practical than in Europe.

Also, all of the engines you guys have mentioned are not available here cuz our diesel won't run them.

Diesel engines, in general, rule. At least enough for 30% of all European passenger vehicles to use them. They're less polluting these days, more efficient than gas and they last fucking forever. But GM never got their shit together on any kind of diesel engine, so don't buy it. GM diesel engines are completely worthless.

I have owned pretty much every deisel eng. out there. Ford's, dodges, gm, izuzu u name it I've had it. But the bottom line is, that engine is a peace of crap. I can go on and on about it, but basically it was a horrible motor not worth your time or money. Hope this helps good luck.

thank you all. Well after some of the posts on here I probably wouldn't have bought it, but just to make sure i didn't buy it, it was gone when I drove past. So someone else must have bought it. This will make me less eager to buy it or anything else for a bit then. Thanks for all the help.
