4x4 question - No front power

Ok more w the saga of my 87 Jeep Wrangler.

Embarassing - stuck in like an inch of snow.

The back tire would spin but the front tire does nothing. When I engage 4wd hi or low it jerks like its engaged and it seems to move with more traction but the wheel never spins. i would think gassing it in the snow would cause it to spin. I thought either your 4wd worked or it didnt. Not some half way crap - what gives??? Any one?

Why is the front wheel suppose to spin? If you are getting more traction then it is working. If your wheel is spinning that will mean you get less traction.

Another thing does your front differential have limited slip? if it does it will always give power to the tire with most traction causing it to rarely ever spin you dont want to spin tires when u are offroading.

What im saying is that there is apparently little or no power going to the front tire. In other words on ice/snow if i hit the gas the back wheel spins and the front does not meaning Im getting little to no power to the front tire.

the post is probably dead, but its more than likely your transfer case is blown.

Like Nike's slogan "Just Do It" As for the front not turning they won't both turn unless you have a locker installed or have welded the spider gears in the front end.... As for not wanting to have tire spin it is almost a must when going 4x4ing in the mud... It is the only way to sling the mud out of the tread for traction...

Dark - yea no posi traction but neither of the wheels spin in the front so somethings wrong. I have no locking hubs so thats not it. But it could be related i think it might engage through vacuums which I think might be disconnected. so its not engaging like no hubs. But what doesnt make sense is it pulls a little in the front but not enough to spin the wheels. Its like 10 percent power so im not sure why that is.

its hard to tell if its the transfer case. but from the symptoms being described it might be that the front differential is probably shot.. or inside the transfer case the chain is destroyed.. either way it directly involves the 4wd system maybe the drive shaft from the transfer case.. best thing to do is take it to a Transmission shop and get their expertise
