got to admit - thats the best explaination i've had - and I've had a few!

even had some one tell me it's bad maths and that 3 * 9 = 28 not 27 and that I was just trying to confuse them?????

3x10£= 30£ (how much they paid)
30£-5£=25£ (money they were suppose to get back)
30£-3£=27£ (amout they got back)
27£+2£= 30£ (amount waiter took)

poor math on the last line - 27 + 2 not equal to 30.

I think it is a rounding error somehow.

Errr.. poor math on the last 2 lines- I should have added.

25+3 = 28
28+2= 30

My apologies

No.. I just subtracted rather than adding because that's what the word problems makes you want to do.

I just looked at it again and I screwed up the math really bad but you understand what I'm saying right?

They paid 30
Going to get 5 back
Lost 2 to the waiter
Got 3 back.

It's all there.

That makes sense, but it doesn't make sense in reverse. Individually the guys paid $10 each, got $1 back and tipped $.67...with three guys that only comes out to $29. I am gonna say the stripper got the other dollar.

lol - got you all thinking even harder now that you got the answer!!!

keep in mind that after they get their money back we are no longer dealing with £30 ($30) the whole bill, including the tip comes to £27 (£25 food bill + £2 tip to the waiter) they each paid £9 3 x 9 = 27

its all worded to confuse because the way the riddle is worded everyone keeps trying to get back to £30
