Just wondering what the rationale behind thread locking is...? Is there a technical reason why threads get locked once they reach a certain size? Do the mods have their own internal set of guidelines for determining when a thread will get locked?
The reason I ask is that "thehbfactor"'s picture thread recently got locked by bachiotomy: the thread was active, seemed very popular and appeared to be generally pretty well-behaved, so I assume the reason it got locked was size (around 120 posts).
Just to make it clear - I'm not criticizing the fact that the thread was locked - not at all. I'm just curious to know what the conditions for a thread getting locked are.
(I had a look through the rules and the feedback section to see if I could find an answer to this, but if it's there, I missed it - sorry for wasting peoples' time if that's the case)
